:bounce2: Winter storm watch for tomorrow night! :bounce2:

Count me in for Saturday, maybe Sunday as well. Record your mileage if you deduct; volunteer mileage is deductible on your taxes. I will not be coming the 2nd weekend.

Sandy and I drove the F-350 up yesterday afternoon and cut a tree. The weather and sunset were gorgeous. We drove most of the way up Rampart Range Road toward the northern end where they close the gate. The upper half of the road has long stretches of glazed snow and ice and is very slick. I had to run the F-350 in four wheel drive to feel secure. The forecast for the area indicates snow tomorrow through Saturday. I predict the snow on top of the ice will make RR Road very slick. I pity the people driving minivans and other ill-prepared cars if they venture that far up the road. We may be pulling some people out of the ditches. We drove out on Mt. Herman Road and ate supper at the La Fiesta in Monument. All in all, a very fabulous afternoon. I love living in Colorado. Vic

Here she comes!
Walkin in a winter wonderland.

So we dont need chains right?

You will be fine without chains. It's easier to pull stuck people around if you have chains, but there will be plenty of us with chains if needed.

Here is the list I have collected so far. If I have missed someone please let me know. I keep going back through the thread and I think I have kept up with the posts but it would be easy to miss someone.

December 3rd: David H, Eric, Jim and Marylin, Josh, Justin(1 FJ60, 1 4Runner, 2 FJ40), Vic

December 4th: Chuck, Luke, Jim and Marylin, Kanudude, David M., Vic

December 10th: Chuck, David H,

On the + side, I may have my new 2M radio in by Saturday ... though "in" may just mean laying on the passenger seat :hillbilly:

On the - side, I hurt my back last week and sitting in a truck all day, even a cushy 80, isn't sounding very appealing right now. We'll see.

Eric, Let us know when you are up and running on 2m and we can chat :D

Hopefully my daughter will get a speed goat Sat. am. If so I'm in for Sun and next weekend.

Up at 4 am, temp. in the teens, 20 -30 mph winds, snow, that is one tough little girl

I will probably not be there tomorrow. don't wait for me. Vic

I'll be up there tomorrow, but just for tree cutting. Hope to see some of you guys up there - we are under a winter weather advisory for 3-6" in Teller Co, so should be a perfect day.

Well, I got an antenna on the roof - coax through the sunroof for the moment. Some trouble with the SWR on the short antenna though: https://forum.ih8mud.com/electronic-toys/538499-ham-antenna-tuning-issue.html

Still need to put a cig. lighter plug on the radio cord. Yes, it's gonna be pretty ghetto.

Back (actually tailbone) is still hurting pretty bad, so we'll see how long I stay out.

got the truck all together should be able to meet up with everyone tomorrow!

Gotta move this wkend. Not sure if im gonna make it tomorrow am so dont wait up. Maybe meet up later or sunday.

Very last minute, but I'll be up Sunday morning. This has been a crazy week! I will meet up with you all at the school, or chain up area.

Sounds like we had a good weekend with lots of volunteers and a few incidents.

Here is the weekend update from what I heard and saw.

Saturday we had 20+ rigs, this is a great turnout! I made it up to Rampart around the crack of noon and wondered around for about four hours. The only person I pulled out was Tom Healy from the Forest Service. He was hung up on a stump so I winched him off. I heard on the radio that a couple of vehicles were stuck on 323 which caused a backup on that section of road.

Sunday we had seven rigs, at the end of the day someone slid into a tree at the intersection of 300 and 320. We called for a tow truck and let the family of four sit in Luke’s 4Runner and Mike’s Bronco until the tow truck arrived as well as the person they called to give them a ride. Oh ya and my transmission went out. I parked the 60 for the afternoon and rode around with Mike. I drove the 60 home but it won't be ready for next weekend so I guess I will be in the Scout for sure next weekend.

Please post up your exeriences from last weekend.

Had a great day on Saturday. We ran the southern section - twice around the 312/314/315 loop, way down onto 322 - first tracks in about 6" to 8" of fresh snow! And then a run around the 300U/300V loop.

Was about 15:00 by that point, and I had done all the sitting I could handle - still paying for it actually. Just after I got the chains off and was going to turn in my forest service radio and sign, I ran into a guy who said there was somebody stuck in the bottom of 323. I raised Luke and Tomas on the radio and told them about it, then listened to them on the repeater all the way down into the springs! What did you guys find down there? I was out of the truck before I heard any resolution.

And yea, the 2M radio is amazing - we were keeping tabs on each other from one end of the area to the other - along with chatter from down in Colorado Springs! And clear as a phone call. Still have to look up that tone squelch bit though.

And last night I almost ended up without a truck - idiot turned left in front of me as I went through an intersection at 40 or 50 mph. Just clipped my flare and rear bumper - a little scuffed and something broke in the flare attachments, but could have been alot worse.

Eric. Still have my flares that I took off so I might have what you need. I got to pull a Hyundai Santa Fe up onto 300 between 325 -324. We were following David M. and saw through the snow ahead a tree laden suburban with its backup lights on weaving back and forth in the middle of the road. As we got closer we could see he was trying to pull the Hyundai in reverse from his front bumper. David got out and stopped him before he pulled them into the ditch while I squeezed around on the other side. Hooked up to the 80 in 4 low and easy-breezy they were out. Ran the whole day on snow tires without chains, no worries!

Cool. I'm not sure what's up with my flare - caked with ice & crud and to damn cold. But it has some significant play when I tug on it.
