138k miles

Finally went to a shop with a mechanic that was willing to drive around with me so I could let him feel the vibration. Unfortunately, it's almost the worst case scenario, the technician thinks it's the torque converter.

I called a few transmission shops to ask for some advice and for my next step. Most of them suggest that when you do the torque converter you rebuild the transmission also.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Another post had a hard to track down vibration end up as a u joint.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just purchased a 2010 LX and I’m experiencing a very similar vibration. Did you ever get this resolved?

After changing every fluid in my car and a trip to the dealership and independent transmission shop, I have learned to live with it. Both shops told me nothing was wrong with my vehicle. On the bright side, I have done so much maintenance on my car I should be good to go for another 100K...

Here is an unproven theory - I have same vibration since I bought my truck in 2017 and it has went away twice:

First time when I removed the harmonic balancer on t-case to install skid and second time when I did the same to change t-case oil. My suspicion is that the bushings in my balancer are shot and when I remove / replace it smooths out but always came back.

I’m sure the part is inexpensive but I just haven’t done it yet.

It's this thing in this post here-

When I got my LX it was missing, assuming a dealer tech forgot to re-attach it after a t-case fluid change. I can tell you there was no difference in vibrations before/after I put a new one on. And I'm very sensitive to vibrations.

Regardless, it's supposed to be there- so worth checking to see if yours is there and installed correctly (the one in the post above isn't).

When I got into my brand new ‘08 it had 76 or 78 miles on it and it had the same resonance. I’m not saying that it isn’t the harmonic balancer but it probably isn’t shot bushings. FYI, when I sold it last year it had the same hum. 213,000 miles.

Old post but another thing to check, which sounds nuts…

HVAC blower motor!!!

When I first got mine a few months back, also had steering wheel and driveline vibes.

Mine is high mileage and I plan on a complete tear down so I wasn’t too concerned.

I noticed the vibes got much worse when I put on the HVAC on any setting.

Replaced HVAC blower and ALL the vibes are 100% gone. The bearings in the motor were SHOT

Bizarre as hell the HVAC motor going bad caused such bad vibes in the steering wheel, and even in the seat.

I was 100% sure it was a driveline issue.

Good news, replacement was only $150 or so

FWIW
