That was your bro Aric?? I should have recognized but as noted, your dawg looked more like you than your brother. :) Something about the beard. by the way, nice runner you assembled.

JSC... great job on the event! I loved the expedited drivers meeting... nice and short. Thanks for letting Jeff and I take the lead... it was very refreshing to not have to worry about any thing, any one, any issues, any dust , any... thing at all except getting to camp in one piece. Record time for us.

Garrett and Travis... thanks for the frosty beverages, and all the other good stuff you levied upon us!

Kief... excellent job on the shirt design... and I have to admit, I really liked the slogan.

Sue... thanks for the back and neck massage! Always great hanging with you at Sourdough.

Pighead... now known at McGrew as either... That guy who'se truck went to O'Brien without him... or LuckyPig!

Great Raffle! Much better than prior years... and I actually got to have tickets and win something!
the Pot luck was fantastic again! I cannot believe how full I was. Those freaking poppers were hot!
The after party started slow but certainly was roaring around 10 and 11... when those horse shoes came out. What the heck is in that Yaegermeister stuff?? UFDA.

it was hot. In case anyone was wondering, it was pretty dang hot at Sourdough by 1 PM on Sat. We headed to the swimming hole (Shanghra la) and Jeff and I both noted the water and swimming was the best it has ever been. The late winter season was still very evident on McGrew... River was clear to the bottom, springs were still running, Azalea's were just finishing their bloom, and the thimble berries were just about ready to take off!

Great to see all our old McGrew friends, including Sean who has not attended since the 1st McGrew ride (and by the way Sean, you need an XL shirt my friend, that Medium looked tight). Great to meet new folks! Sorry if I forgot your name but it happens all the time. Good folks, good event, Good trail ride.

Thanks to everyone who either coordinated, worked, and attended. This event is truly what TLCA is all about. Friends sharing our passion together.

And of course, thanks Jeff for letting me ride along again and enjoy your version of Spartan camping. Thank gosh everyone else took good care of us. Very appreciative... arrived home right on schedule at 5:30.

One thing consistent about McGrew... it's never long enough!

I want my $16.50 back for stain black spray paint and hours of washing.....

I kid, I kid... It's always a good idea to detail the underbelly, after all it needs love too I suppose.

Hey, I said to wash it, not to paint it. Not my fault you can't follow instructions. ;p

In all seriousness, even though we didn't have Ranger inspections it's still good to play by their rules. We want to keep them happy, and they do have a serious problem there with people bringing crap in.

Amen to that!

Didn't take many pics. Just a couple. Wish I had taken more. :bang:

couple more.

my hoods up in almost every shot- I need to vent that SOB.... although, my dumb needle never made it over halfway on the gage, and the AC was on 75% of the time...

The boys had a great time- big brother fell asleep in the sluice, and little bro about an hour earlier- both gassed out and were cranky sunday, but we made up for it today and skipped school for park fun and bike rides; positive reinforcement for further offroad adventures.:D

I know exactly what you mean. I ordered a set of vents today.

I know my engine bay temps where well over 170*. Not sure how far over as that is as hig as my cheap fleabay gauge goes.

Glad your boys had fun. They looked like good kids. :)

Lucky Pighead here, checking in from lovely Medford...with a technical question.
How is it that Sue had her 80 there in camp with all you savvy 80 guys, complaining about here leaky front hub, and nobody even looked underneath at the knuckle? Leaving it to some over-the-hill Pighead with the ancient iron to spot the passenger side steering arm hanging by three loose studs with a 1/4" gap between the arm and the knuckle. The three remaining studs were finger loose.
I did not have a spare knuckle stud, but my spare wheel stud seemed to have the same threads. I wrenched it together enough to drive, got to the Toyota dealer in Grants pass at 5:31 today (they close at 5:30) and the parts guy had left a stud, cone washer and flat washer...but no nut. So we went to Napa, found a nut with correct thread, put 2 quarts of 90wt in the front diff and drove her home.
So, what do you torque an 80s front knuckle studs to?
Oh, and thanks for the great run. Liked it so much I stayed an extra day.

Edit: Dang! we didn't get a pic of the arm hanging there, only thought of the camera after my "fix"

YOUCH! Sue mentioned that she was leaking oil, but stated that she was leaking from the outside of the tire (from the dust cap), not the inside. And certainly didn't mention it was that much!

You can torque it to about 40 lbs from what I understand. However, if they've backed out (which they did) then the stud is stretched and shot. You can drop in a new one but since the threads are greased it won't hold. Also if the threads aren't clean, it's a wet spec rather than a dry, which can double (or more) the amount of force for the same torque value. If you put too much force on it, you can auger the stud through the metal and into the knuckle.

She needs a full front end job, with clean threads. I'd recommend the new style studs which are torx style (easier to install). I'd also use locktite.

The inner axle seal also appears to be blown, which means a full front end job is in order.

I'm sure you know all of that...just trying to cover all the bases....

If you need help, give me a call. You still have my number, yes?

Hell I didn't know that your PIG was missing out of camp let alone that.

Anyways got home yesterday around 5. Great trip, Good food,Good People. Glad I got to catch up with people I only see once a year. Only issue on the way back was that my parents 60 stalled out going toward Lake of the woods after she hit a puddle. Two minutes later it was fine. I was not there but could only spectalate wet dizzy, or suck a little water through the air cleaner, Not sure.

Anyways want thank all the Players that helped put this on, Gabe Thanks for being the Chair, Nick you the man, I won some great stuff, Kief bitchen shirt, Garret thanks for leading, same to you Jerod, Travis your signs worked for me. Looking forward to next Year.

If there is any ideas from this years attendess about what can be better Post them up. We are always looking for ways to make it better.

Josh

Pighead,

Gabe left me a message telling me you found your way back in the dark! Man on that drive out I was feeling for you thinking you had to drive it back with out GPS and only the stars to guide the way... And that full moon!

Good to hear it all worked out for ya! Hope to see ya next year on the Con!

Pighead does always seem to show up at the damdest times, good one pig, the cruiser karma is alive and well. Looking forward to my first McGrew someday.

This is very true. After Rubithon last year, my fuel tank was smashed in and my fuel gauge not operating properly. I thought I had enough gas. Ran out of gas on the side of the highway.

And, there comes Pighead to save the day!

Cruiser karma does run strong with the Pighead.

LOL! Driving without a GPS? Horrors! All I had to work with was a well-traveled road that I had seen just a few hours prior...got me back to camp about 0200, just in time for last call.

That's just because Pigs travel so slow...I always end up tailgunner.
