Hey guys, been lurking here for a long time but I've never joined, figured today would be a decent day to ask a few questions.

I have a '99 Land Cruiser which I purchased a few months ago from a friend who no longer needed a larger SUV, he ended up with a Highlander (his loss, my gain). I'm not really a fan of the stock 16" wheels, and I have a set of the 2007 Tundra 275/65/R18 wheels from my old Tundra which met a fateful end last winter after some ass t-boned me at an intersection.

After reading a few threads, I know these wheels are compatible with the 100 series, but because the tire size for both 18" wheels is different, I was wondering if I could get the stock 275/60/18 tires from the 03-07 Land Cruiser on these 275/65/18 Tundra wheels without complications. Stupid question I know, but I want to make sure. I really don't want to mess with my speedometer and all that and if I can get the LC tires on the Tundra wheels, I'd prefer that. I'll be honest, I haven't really modified this vehicle as it is an awesome truck to begin with but would like to update some exterior bits.

Also, in terms of all season tires for this size, does anybody have any decent recommendations?

Thanks in advance,

Chuck

These are the wheels I have btw:

No complications upsizing from 275/60/18 to 275/65/18 tires. Your speedometer will be off by about 3.5%, meaning 60mph on your speedometer corresponds to an actual speed of 62mph. Definitely within reasonable tolerances, especially considering some of the larger differences in tire size some members run. As for suggested tire makes and models, search for threads dealing specifically with this topic, of which there are many. I like running AT (all-terrain) tires, but that's just my preference. Welcome to MUD and good luck.

Thanks for the response.

I think I should have worded my original post a little clearer, although I feel like an idiot asking it because the answer should be pretty obvious (and I have searched as well). I currently have the 275/65/18 TUNDRA rims but the OEM tire size for the LC 18" rims is 275/60/18. Will these particular rims work with the slightly smaller tire that the LC calls for?

I would assume they would but I figured I'd check with the experts here before I pull the trigger. I'd prefer to stay with the stock size tires if possible just so I don't have to adjust my speed, etc.

Thanks again,

Chuck

Yes, they will fit.

The numbers 65 and 60 describe the tire's sidewall aspect ratio. 65 = 65% of the tire's section width which is 275mm in both cases.

60 = 60% of the tire's section width.

See Tire Guide Size for additional information.

Just what I needed to hear.

I talked with a guy at a shop near me and he said it wouldn't work if I going from 65 to 60 (and proceeded to try to sell me the most expensive tires possible), which had me confused, and some guys on the Tundra forum said downsizing was stupid, they all thought I should be getting bigger tires but they didn't understand the Tundra wheels were going on an LC that had slightly smaller OEM tires.

Again, sorry for the stupid question. I'll be candid, I'm not a mechanic by any means so a lot of this stuff is foreign to me, but I've always loved these trucks since my father bought a 60 series back in the 80s. I converted to a Land Rover Discovery (discovery as in finding all the things wrong with the thing) and finally traded it in on my Tundra after four years of constant repairs... albeit the thing went anywhere.

I'll upload pics later on, the wife is telling me to get off the computer and watch TV with her and the kids (yes dear).

Thanks again!

The guy at your local shop who told you 275/60/18 tires wouldn't work on your Tundra rims is a liar and a cheat. That would probably signal the last time I set foot in that shop. And to the Tundra crowd that says downsizing was stupid, they aren't completely off base. Doing so is less than ideal considering your odometer will show a higher reading than the actual number of miles driven. While small and possibly negligible, showing higher miles on the odometer than actual mileage will only work against you if you ever decide to sell/trade the truck.

Personally, I wouldn't bother buying new 275/60 tires if the existing 275/65 tires are in good shape. Simply not worth the cost versus benefit, especially considering the small difference (3.5%). If anything, just wait until you need new tires and then go for the 275/60 setup. I always like a larger than stock tire size for visual purposes, but to each his own.

You best go to a different shop. As stated, 18" rim/wheel will support any 18" tire, the LC will not "allow" any 18" tire; however the size adjustment you're inquiring about is fine, not problematic. Where are you located? Do you have Discount or America tires?

I'm near Sandy Hook, Connecticut. I'm most likely just gonna go to my tech when he gets back from vacation.

Landcruiserphil, really liking that look, those rims are slightly different than the ones I have but it still looks great. In my opinion the 16 inchers look a bit too small compared to all these 18-20" monsters on trucks nowadays. I'm gonna keep my 16s for winter tires as they are pretty rough, and there seems to be a bit more tire options for that size.

lhommec13, I understand where you're coming from. As of right now I have only my Tundra rims with no tires, and because I wanna stick to stock sizes with my new truck, I want to get the OEM 275-60-18 tire size for the 2003+ LC models with the 18 inch rims, because I don't feel like fooling around with speedometer and I figured I'd get the correct stock size for the LC to begin with.

Thanks for all the help.

B3, tell me about that antenna? Can you find that locally or did you order it via a web retailer?

It's a work in progress. The mount is from Gamiviti and fits perfectly. The antenna is not the best (had to find one w a short base otherwise it hits the fender bought it from Amazon it's a short flexible mast for boats). It's still in progress bc the shop that did the snorkel butchered the oem antenna cable. Reception could be better but I need to rewire. Haven't done so bc I stream most of the content I listen to.
Cheers

Hi everyone. I am looking for some new tires for my 2003 Series 100. It has the 275/60/R18 wheels. I am finding very limited options for tires for this size. I was looking for all season type of tires for it or perhaps something a bit more aggressive, but honestly I am really not offroading and needing this truck for more road trips.
Does anyone have any good recommendations or sources for tires for these trucks. I would think that you all have piles of them around from replacing yours with the 33" tires.

thanks,
Jeff

I'm looking to upgrade to a 275/70/18 on Tundra wheels in either the Toyo Open Country AT/II or Nitto Terra Grapplers. I will post when I make the purchase.
