Hello all,

I've got a 2006 LC that will not crank. I've got 12.8 volts at the battery (1.5 years old) and clean terminals (that I nonetheless cleaned again to make sure they aren't the culprit).

The vehicle won't crank at all and I cannot get the OBD-2 scanner to work with it. It shuts off when I turn the car to "ON". With the key in the "ON" position, the only lights that light are the "RSCA OFF", the tire pressure light, ABS light, occasionally the CEL, and the "BRAKE" light. All these lights are very dim and flicker, and none of the other lights illuminate.

Any thoughts as to where I should start? I pulled the EFI fuse and swapped with a spare and nothing. I also confirmed the security light goes off with the key in the ignition. Would the OBD-2 issue be with the car or the scanner?

Trunk Monkey, I just went and tried to jump. It solved the issue of no diagnostic lights and I was able to run the OBD-2 scan, but still no crank. The lights will flash off/on when I hold the key forward like it's trying to start, but it still will not crank.

The OBD-2 scan found no trouble codes.

What do you mean "like it's trying to start"? Like the starter engaging and spinning the engine over?

Can we get some history on it?

Sorry, bad choice of words. It's definitely not turning the engine over. When I hold the key all the way forward, the starter is consistently clicking while the lights consistently flash on/off.

It hasn't sat at all. It's my daily driver with 120k on it. Has ran perfectly until this point.

I would try to jump again, do it with another vehicle while running and use good sized cables.

Has it rained recently? New windshield? Water leaks?

Does the solenoid click? Could be that the starter motor has packed up. Read what the voltage drops to when you turn the key when trying to start, it shouldn't drop below 9.5 volts, if it does then swap the battery. The battery needs to be fully charged before test..this is like doing a battery drop test.

sounds like a dead battery... really

Agree with @ponytl maybe try a brand new battery, or take the current battery to auto parts store and ask them to test (should be free). Next, I would check wires - maybe a rodent chew on it and broke some wires.

Does sound like bad battery. Make sure to grease both battery post, after install & cleaning.

Also check the ground cable connection for engine. It's at back of engine tied up to heater T hoses, which is location on my 2001 LX and LC.

Guys, thanks for all the replies. I tried the battery from my wife's GX460 and it cranked right up. This was after (1) checking voltage with multimeter, (2) attempting to jump, and (3) putting a charger on it overnight, all with a Duralast Gold battery that's 1.5 years old. Ive never had a bad battery act hat way, but I guess you get what you pay for. Good news is the replacement was totally free. Thanks for again for the replies.
