Is it possible to update just the grill on my 2000, or will it require the headlight swap described on tlcfaq?

I do have the "kouki" one and it updates the look of the rig very well. It also comes with an OEM badge with a part number. It came chrome so I painted it with Rustoleum Universal flat black so it matches the rest of my truck.

98-02 have different upper bumper reinforcement then 03+. The reinforcement is also the grill lower support, running from side to side as the under grill & headlight molding. 03+ just have molding under the headlights. So for sure the 98-02 grill is not as tall. The taller 03+ grill would hold the hood up at least 2" to high, not allowing hood to close. I've not actually tested this, just know there is a difference in the upper bumper reinforcement.

Correct, with OEM parts there would not be a direct swap, but with the grills from eBay they are a conversion grille and give you the 06-07 grill look without any converting mods to the lower valance.

its barely noticeable. the color change accounts for 90% of the difference. why not save yourself labor and money and paint

It's already black. I think the chrome would spruce up the front of the truck
