What I think is that Toyota should have regeared lower when they went from the 16” to the 18” tires and fit a larger side wall. I understand they made the change bc of aesthetics based on the competition, every manufacturer went for bigger rims, and they wanted to keep up, but tried to keep the same diameter tire for the right gearing, and they stuck with a very weird tire size. A wide and skinny tire on a 3k # car might be ok and good looking as long as the suspension can cope with it, but on a 6k# truck that’s designed to carry 9k#.. specially when unloaded, might be too much for the basic shock we get from the manufacturer.
So you can spend $1000’s in changing the geometry of your suspension, or go for a soft rubber on your tires and try to absorb the road .
I thought that there was an issue with my suspension at first. Got oem shocks to replace the Gabriel’s or whatever the po installed, then had to order new overpriced washers for the shocks since they were too small for the oem rubber bushings and cheap a$@ Toyota don’t supply those with the shocks. Went with new stabilizer bushings and links even though they were still ok when removed, checked control arms bushings while doing axles and brakes.. don’t know what I spent on parts, diy’d everything since I don’t trust “mechanics”.. ordered small items from partsouq, large items from local dealership.
And that’s why I’m recommending, tires first.
I didn’t replaced my tires yet bc they’re still strong, but can’t wait to wear them down and get a new set..
