This is sound advice, I've always used "trade in" value as my basis for arriving at the amount I will pay for a vehicle.

How much over trade-in would you go?

It is a one owner drs car in my old hometown (Roanoke, VA). .

Never understand why this is pointed out - who cares? Do doctors have some special car care rituals that the rest of us don't? Pulease.

I happen to like the look of the white without the "trim"; of course your mileage may vary. In the end, you should buy the Cruiser you can get the best deal on (when condition and price are considered). For the price your willing to pay, you should be able to find a really nice one - I wouldn't limit it to just these two.

Completely agree....it was literally the first thing out of their mouth...

Everyone seems to be so concerned with a warranty.... WTF? I thought most of these waranties are never used anyway because they are such solid vehicles. That is why I bought a loaded 04 LC just out of MF warranty for $37100 Properly cared for they go for ever right?

The warranty is mainly for peace of mind if a big-ticket expense occurs. On this boards, it seems the big-ticket items are exhaust manifolds, the electric pump for the brake master failing, and a few 2000 LC trannies failing due to lack of maintenance or driving habits of the PO. I would not consider starter contacts or TPS big-ticket items, but having the warranty would save you an afternoon of wrenching and cursing, not to mention down-time from not being able to get the part that day. It also all depends what premium one has to pay for the warranty. At some price, it's no longer worth it and cheaper to get that one thing repaired at the dealer.

I'll vouch for that...

My DIY starter contacts repair was a knuckle bleeding pain in the ass. Especially when I ended up buying a whole new $350 starter. At least I knew how to install it the next weekend.

In the end, it would have been worth the $600 trip to the dealer, (and saved me ridicule from wifey and kids), but not worth the $2.5K extended warranty I was offered 2 years ago.

I am being offered the Platinum extended warranty for $995. i may try to get that thrown in to seal the deal.

if the CPO is what I experienced when we shopped it was basically a quick inspection that doesn't mean much. Extended warranties direct from Lexus or Toy may be worth having if at a good price.
We got some super duper one from Toy up to 100K for only $500 or so. Already paid for itself and more.

So a warranty from one of the big ones like universal may not be worth it? I am thinking of getting just the basic powertrain warranty just to cover the exhaust manifold and tranny.

I'd get something that covers the electronics, as these are complicated vehicles. Just diagnosing the problem could be challenging.

As a point of reference. In December of 2003, I paid ~ $56K for a fully loaded 2004 LC. I also picked up a Toyota $0 deductible/100k mile warranty for $1,400. In hindsight, I could have probably done a little better on the warranty.

Fully loaded includes side curtain airbags, roof rack, Rear DVD and the towing package.

40k miles later and the thing runs as good as the day I bought it.

Two weeks ago I had to drive over 50 miles in a blinding snowstorm that dumped 12" in about four hours.

I can't tell you how gratifying it was to drive up my steep unplowed driveway without blinking an eye.

This is my second LC (previous was a '98) and I wouldn't own anything else.

Good to see you. What did you do.... sell the Acura?

Yahtzee,
The Pkg B was an upgrade from A consisting of two tone paint and the fender flares for about $1200. Pkg A came with lots of stuff; carpeted mats, cargo mat, cargo net, glass break sensor, fabric guard, signal mirros, etc. along with several non-tranferable warranties (tires, roadside, hazard). Gulf States (Houston) has a bad reputation for loading up their Toyotas throughout the 5 state area with "optional" port packages. Both customers and dealers are stuck.

In Arkansas, one can go to Memphis or Springfield to check out Toyotas in two other regions. When I was in Texas, it was a pain... stuck (or pay to travel).

Most new LCs from GST are loaded to within about $2-3K of the LX, some are more than LX. The LX dealers are not burdened with all those GST packs. I think Toyota would sell a lot more LCs if they did not insist on including the "optional" NAV on them (or is that also a GST thing?...)

I like the contrasting look and am glad to see the list of addtl options that are included. I believe im pulling the trigger on this cruiser tomorrow - wish me luck!
