I have in bumper towing hitch and the manual rates it for 5000LBS. If I buy after market hitch, can O safely two up to 6500LBS?

for those that have LX470 2004, what do you tow with it and how does it drive? What is the max you towed? Thank you

Sorry, one more question. What adaptor do I need for the trailer wire attachment to pull a boat with surge brakes.

If the trailer has surge brakes, you shouldn't need any special adapter as surge brakes work without any electrical signal (they work based on the push/pull effects of your tow vehicle).

The ratings might differ between the "in the bumper" hitch and the "under the bumper" hitch.

This may be true. To the OP, the FSM states the maximum gross trailer weight for the vehicle and does not specify style or rating of hitch.

A boat trailer (or any trailer with surge brakes) only needs the basic four wire set up: Turn L, Turn R, Running Lights, Ground.

However, for this application in particular, it is critical that you install an isolated adapter/converter for your truck lights to the trailer plug. The one time you forget to unplug before backing the trailer into the water could be catastrophic for your stock truck wiring. :whoops:
