I've found a very enticing '04 LC and kind of want to get some feedback. As I said, it's an '04 Thunder Cloud, 1 owner, no accidents/body work,non smoker, very very clean with 51,000 miles. They are asking $35,000 for it. Now, it's not at a Toyota store, but at a Hummer store traded in on a new H2 (egads !!). Truck looks to be in excellent shape. I've been considering trading in my '01 on everything from a new 200 to a new Rangie but I am actually very happy with my '01 but would like a little newer one ('03--07) with some of the added features that this one has. This is a TX car with no rust issues. Does the $$ sound fair ? I was possibly considering an equal year LX but I really want to put an ARB combo bar on it and the LX only takes the Sahara, which I personally don't like at all.

My other question is if I buy it from the Hummer store can I purchase an extended warranty for it from my local Toy store? I wil not buy a used vehicle without one.

:cheers:

well one can always buy an ext war. from any company. the added features of the newer model make it not even comparable to the older one. i used to own a 98 and now own an 03 and it is night and day.

i too was thinking bought trading in for a range but couldn't bring myself to it with the lack of reliablity in the non brand new trucks.

We love the 2004, and that's a fair price. It should still be within factory warranty. Ours was.

Probably not anymore. Standard Toyota warranty is 3yrs/36mos. It might, however, have a Toyota pre-owned certified warranty (though not if it's being sold at a Hummer dealership). I would not bother with an aftermarket warranty, even if offered by the Toyota dealer. This is discussed in other threads about extended warranties.

I bought my 03 last spring with 54K for about $31K, so you might be able to do a little better on the price. That said, if it's pristine, it may be worth paying a little extra.

Have an '04 LC (new)...now has 60K miles. So far it has been a great vehicle. This is my third LC and I plan on keeping past 200K miles.

I removed the running boards...put on Bridgestone rovos 1" larger diameter...and changed to Bilsteen shocks. Looks MUCH better and rides great.

Price depends on condition...Tom R

I am going to pick up my '03 TLC today. It has 44,000 miles, 1 owner, looks pretty clean from Internet pics (its out of town). One flw, chewed up backseat seatbelt female recepticle. I called toyota and its a $28 replacement part.....but the extra key with electric locks is about $300!!

Anyway, I made a pretty low offer $26,500 and they accepted. I would say times are hard, economy, yada, yada, yada....they've got to feel the squeeze too! And don't take your wife!! :)

Good luck!

Cool sowbug!

On that 2004, mine came with the remainder of a 7yr / 100,000 mile warranty. Might inquire to platinum warranty coverage before buying the beast :)

Damn, just found an '06 silver, 1 owner, very clean with 44,500 miles at a nearby Honda dealer. They are asking $39,000 for it. Kinda high miles but not outrageous. It was originally titled in Sept 05 so in a sence it's 3yrs old, not 2..Still under factory warranty and you get the VVTi motor to boot. Hmmmm, is it worth the extra $4K ??? :hmm: :hmm:

:cheers:

If I may help out with pricing. I picked up a 04 in TX (DFW) loaded with 50kmiles and two tone paint, chrome crap, full hitch and a couple other fancy bits, and it was only $35. The reason I mention this to you my friend, is that it was a YEAR ago.

I don't think the quoted price is awful, but you can do better. Get them to $33 and you will be fine. The extra $2k can be used for fun crap like an ARB bumper and lift.

BTW.. TX seems to be a good place to buy LC's. Not too dry and no snow. Mine has a finish that is nearly new. Partially because the white is durable and partially because it has never been in harsh elements.

Don't have any advice on the second vehicle you found. The only thing that for me would have been a cool feature of the 05+ is the built in SAT button for XM. Silly bit, but I hate local radio here since I don't speak Spanish.

I might end up passing on the '04 and the 44K '06 because I found another '06 in the same color but with 10K less miles for the same price. It's at a Toyota dealership too. Not sure that is good or bad since I bought my current '01 from a DFW dealership and it was, without a doubt the WORST car buying experience I've ever had !! Going to talk to them about the '06 first thing Monday morning and see if I can get them down any on the price. Still, an '06 with 34,000 miles for $39,000 is pretty reasonable to me. Now, here is something I need to give some consideration to...The NAV on my '01 that I am trading in doesn't work. The screen works fine for the A/C and radio controls but the nav reader under the seat is inop. Any tips on how I might be able to "skirt" this issue? Naturally I'm going to have the screen off when I go down to look at the '06. Hell, they might not even catch it until after I've bought the '06 !! Really don't like to be dishonest but the dealership I bought my '01 from didn't disclose some things to me that I found out later..That's kind of the risky business when dealing in used cars. So, anyway, any tips on the NAV issue ??

At this point I don't know if it has AHC. The one at the Honda dealership does not. Does the AHC equipped vehicle have regular shocks or air bladders. I'm not too sure I want to mess with an air suspension but I do know that the Toy/Lex system is different than the ones in LR's.

I am moving out of alpine country to the banana belt. It is snowing right now and I have 14 feet pilled up around my house. The 100 runs amazingly well. I have not advertised it yet cause I need to clean/detail it and would prefer to use till May or so. Where are you located?

Well, I managed to get them down on the '04 from $35,500 to---> $32,790 . The other place doesn't want to do much dealing on the 2006, which is still at $39,250. I'm going to have to purchase an extended warranty on either one, so that will have to be a consideration as well. I think a decent guess on a Platinum warr is about $2,500 so with that added to both. I'm not too sure the 2006 is worth the extra $6,000+. What say you ??

If anyone can tell me what they paid for their Platinum warranty that would help..

:cheers:

The extended warranty from Toyota will cost more once it has exceeded the new car warranty of 3yr/36k miles because it is based on a "used" car purchase. Therefore, the ext. warranty on a lower mileage 06 will cost less.

You can shop the warranty, just make sure it is by Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and not a look-alike that a Toyota dealer is using instead. You can peruse the toyota.com site for the actual coverage.

I tend to think the 06 is worth the $6K difference.

I talked to the F&I guy at my Toy store (Lithia) and he said he couldn't sell me a Toyota ext warranty due to the mileage (over factory warranty) of both LC's. That's strange because I bought my current '01 from Toyota of Plano in Sept '04 and it had 45K . Man, this sound a bit strange ?? I don't know why the guy would not be truthful since obviously I was wanting to buy the service plan from him...Something just doesn't seem right that I couldn't get a Toyota warranty on a Toyota product. :hmm::hmm:

2004 has 51,000 miles---> At a Hummer dealership
2006 has 44,000 miles---> At a Honda dealership

I guess I could go on and get a certified LX and avoid all of this !! But then no ARB deluxe bar and I'm really not a "Lexus" person....:crybaby:

Ok, getting to be decision time ! Here are my options :

A) 2004 w/ 3yr 45,000 mile ext warranty----> $36,000.00

B) 2006 w/ 4yr 48,000 mile ext warranty----> $44,100.00

C) Keep my 66,000 mile 2001 and spend some $$ on front/rear ARB bumpers, maybe get some performance upgrades, get a major interior and exterior "freshening" (aka: detailed), get the NAV reader fixed, get the sound system improved upon (already done speakers) with a sub-amps and a sound processor, etc -----> approx $4,500.00

It's not like I really need a newer 100 but I really do prefer the 2003+ 100's. My '01 is in very good condition and won't take a huge amt of money to "fix up". I know what I have in my '01. Most of the bugs should have been worked out by now, especially since I got a new tranny last summer. I realize this isn't a very important issue on the grand scale of things, but...What you guys think ? Money really isn't the issue here, it's more in the line of "what will I be happiest" with !! I like the 100 series because it fits in my garage, I am very comfortable in it, I like the looks (lots more than the 200 series), there are plenty of aftermkt parts, blah...blah...blah !!

:cheers:

well if you care for my opinion, keep the 01 and do some mods and fine tune it to exactly how you want.
