Hi all. I know this topic has been beat to death. However...

I bought the lx470 kit. There are 5 speakers. I just finished repairing the front 2, the 5.5" ones.

Remaining, I have 1 X 5.5" and then the 2 X smaller ones.

So my question is, the last 5.5" is in the far back? The sub? Then that means the little 2 are the rear driver and passenger door speakers?

Thanks!

Yes, 4 inch in the rear doors, last 5 1/2 is the right rear sub

Perfect, ty! In mine, an 03, the last 5.5 is the driver side 3rd row rear. At least that where the speaker cover is at.

Ugh, this is something I know I need to tackle on mine. I’ve just been ignoring the terrible sound. Idk squat about speakers is the problem

I’m am really grateful for this option. Restored OEM sound for me when I really did not want the aftermarket can of worms.

Just to be clear, do you have a Mark levinson system or pioneer system? If you have the later, the 4” foams you bought worked? Which is the kit you ordered?

This was the first thing I did on my LX470 with Mark Levenson. Amazing value to restore the factory sound. It was a bit of a pain in the butt, but was well worth the effort. As a bonus, I was able to take the cloth speaker covers off and REALLY clean them. They were filthy...

If you are on the fence, just do it.

I would love to. But I don’t have Mark levinson. I have the Standard lexus system. I’m having a hard time to identify the refoam kits for it. 1000s of thread on Mark levinson, not a single one for pioneer 7 speaker system. Don’t know whether they disintegrate like ML surrounds. But my audio became weak. I thought refoaming would bring back some good sound.

Is the repair only needed for blown speakers?

I just recently picked up a 2006 LX470 with the ML system and the sub in the rear is obviously blown (has a flappy sound), but the others four do not. They do however seem to have low ish volume, very slightly muddled sound. It may be the source though, only able to use FM and CarPlay (through Grom VT2) I have volume in the mid-20s as an average cruising listening volume (not too loud, I can’t handle loud music anymore).

Would the repair kit make them sound any cleaner? Btw, I can’t test cd audio because the changer doesn’t work.

If the surrounds are crumbling at all the sound is going to be terrible. It's HIGHLY likely that the foam has turned to dust on most car speakers after 20 years, but you'd have to look at them to know for sure.

If you touch the surrounds and the have a good spring to them, then it's not your surrounds and new foam won't help.

For the most part surrounds are surrounds... Pretty much all will degrade in a hot car after 20+ years.

If they don't list them directly, you can get measurements of the surrounds (inner and outer diameter, etc) and match them up with the generic surrounds they sell.

That’s my current plan. But it looks a bit different from the ML surrounds or any surrounds they list. Not even sure they are foam or butyl. Posting a picture I found on mud below. The person holds oem pioneer in his hand.

I have the Mark Levinson. The kit I ordered worked fantastic. The sound is incredible! Takes about 2-3 hours if you do it correctly. Take your time!

I'd redo them all. If your sub is bad, then the others are on their way out. Its worth doing them all at once IMO.

No. Check the one the person is holding. He replaced it with aftermarket. The pic below that is an oem one for sale in ebay.
Yep, I should have been more clear. The on on the top is aftermarket, the others with the paper cone are OEM.

Both foam surrounds looked fine. No cracks or tears, even by touching there’s no disintegration. Noticed a hole on front one. Rear one is having no visible damage yet it sound worse. Rear doesn’t have integrated tweeter as I was expecting. They say it is a full range speaker, I’m not sure how. Now back to out of ideas about sound improving. I wish I had dry rotted Mark Levinsons , at least could refoam it🙁.
