Sorry to hijack the classifieds, but I really need some advice about a 2003 model for sale. I’m really looking for something that is clean and rides nice. I want to drive it often and put 100,000 miles on it over the next 10 years. From what I can gather, it’s going to be more about daily enjoyment and less about an investment given the amount of driving/miles I plan to accrue.

I’m looking at an LX 470 with a little over 150,000 miles. It has no rust underneath from the south and looks very clean inside and non-smoker. They are asking 12k+

Here’s what I found:

It had meticulous oil change service every 4K miles for yrs, but he never did the 30, 60, 90 or 120,000 miles major services.

1. No driving belt or timing belt change

2. Both sides of the engine has valve gaskets leaking, never fixed this summer when diagnosed

3. Left rear and right front axle boots never replaced, never fixed this summer when diagnosed

4. Two previous minor wrecks/body fixed at Lexus not mentioned on the Carfax. Panels, hinges, molding stuff (10400 miles and 87000 miles)

Do you think this is a vehicle that is worth pursuing? I’m just not exactly sure how big some of these prior service issues can be in a 15 yr old vehicle. They are wanting 12k+ currently which would put me at 15k after the work...seems pricey

I'd use that they didn't do essentially any maintenance as leverage. The 3k you added is just for what you know needs to be done. I'd offer 9k for the costs of the work you will (and may) need to do in the future. Just my opinion as the one thing these trucks need to run 500k miles is just to be maintained...
