hello all...awesome forum, been lurking for some time.

i have a 2003 land cruiser and i am getting a faint grinding, marbling sound, coming from the rear right side, especially when i turn. I've pulled the tired and checked the brakes but found nothing out of the ordinary. I've also lifted the truck off all fours and rotated the tires but couldn't recreate it. Any ideas where else to look?

truck is lifted 2.5" and on 35's

How sure are you that it's in the rear? What you're describing sounds a lot like a CV on the way out.

Wild shot in the dark, but you have you pulled the caliper and pads? One of the pad retainers could of failed causing the pad to shift slightly under braking. How are your pads doing?

pads will need to be replaced in a few months, but they seemed tight when i checked them. might warrant another look though. thanks

The weird thing is that you say 'especially when I turn'. So it's either a lateral load or differential thing. Is there any chance there's damage to the real diff or axle? Does it occur more turning left or right? Any chance that the exhaust is making contact with the frame when you turn?

Another thing, besides the pad retainers. Sometimes a small rock can get stuck in between the dust shield and rotor. I have had this happen many times, and it only makes a sound when I turn. When you have your wheel off push the shield back and forth with your hand and see if you can hear anything fall.

I had this happen Saturday, took about 5 wattle bottles to flush it out on the trail.

not sure if it matters which direction i turn, i'll give it a check. It's not a high pitch grind but rather a low pitch noise

It could also be a rear wheel bearing.

i thought that as well, but all my bearings have been replaced and i couldn't recreate the sound on a lift....

of course it wasn't under load either.

You've had your rear wheel bearings replaced? I ask because from what I read it's not an easy repair to complete and would have only been done had there been a problem in the past.
