So our landcrusier ,which has never given us problems, decided to have an electric gremlin. Truck will turn over but not start. Tried both sets of keys( with fobs) without success. I noticed the red alarm light ( which looks like a car) underneath the navigation, continues to flash when trying to start the car. I took it to the dealership and was told that the ecu was not getting power because it did not light up when turning the key. Unfortunately it started to work before they could do anymore diagnostics. Now it has done it several more times but only when starting the vehicle. It drives and runs fine. I think it may be the alarm. If it was a short to the ECU it should have problems running. Again it is only when trying to start it. I also read in other posts that the red flashing light should go off when the key is turned. If this is correct and it is an alarm issue what do I need to do. I do have what I believe the master keys.

The red light should stop flashing as soon as the key is inserted as the transponder communicates to the immobilizer ECU. If it keeps flashging then you have a problem. Do you have an aftermarket non-Lexus/Toyota windshield? There are rivets that aftermarket shops usually forget that are under the weatherstrips on the sides. The glass will leak down onto the junction blocks in the drivers and passenger foot wells causing all kinds of wierd electrical problems.
