I see this thread is almost three years old.. Has anyone figured out a solution? Been dealing with this issue for almost 15 years, would be great to find a fix..

Also curious about remote start, or push start button. When I drive newer cars those are nice features to have. Any suggestions regarding going those routes?

I thought I recalled a thread where people were running the antenna up the inside of the A pillar? I also seem to remember that it is mounted under the driver seat? I could be wrong on both counts, but I definitely read it on MUD.

I think that I read something similar in an 80 series thread, there is one there with grey wire mod in the title?

I don't recall anything about the title and my MUD search-fu is weak.

Does anyone have a 1998 manual PDF of the Electrical Wiring Diagram section???? In the 2004 manual PDF, in the EWD section it shows the "Door Control Receiver" located inside the passenger side back door, adjacent to the speaker. I guess I can take a few minutes to pull the door panel and see, but I can't do that today I don't think.

Cruiser Parts is showing the part for sale:
Door Control Receiver 98-02 [89741-60061] - $200.00 : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts

This part # matches up with online sales for keyless entry components:
Receiver - Toyota (89741-60370) | fat.parts

@Dwight S - I have a hard copy. There's no mention of "Door Control Receiver" in the '98 EWD. It does have a "Wireless Door Lock ECU" though. Different physical location but almost the same spot in the circuit diagram.

D27 - "Door Control Receiver" is missing from the "Position of Parts in Body" diagram...

...but there is a "Wireless Door Lock ECU" in the "Position of Parts in Instrument Panel" diagram.

The same differences are reflected in the "Wireless Door Lock Control" circuit diagram.

Of course, there isn't a "Wireless Door Lock ECU" part, it's called "Receiver, Door Control" with part #: 89741-60060. I'd probably check both locations for something that looks like this:

@labcab.... Thanks for posting that. I'll try to get under the dash and see what I can find. I will probably have to wait until the weekend. It doesn't appear to have an antenna wire. I may try to extend a wire from the mounting lug as a makeshift antenna or do a t-tap into the ground wire to see if that helps. I know with a fresh battery, I can expect about 20' or so of range. I don't want 500', just 50' or so would be nice.
