Just installed BFG 285/75/16's this past weekend.

Never had any noises coming from the vehicle other than the regular shifting clunks, but now when the engine first starts i hear this long creak as i'm accelerating. sounds like it's coming from the passenger rear? i don't know, it's really hard to tell - even with the windows down and music off....
but it's like a fingernail down a chalkboard "creaaaaaaaaaak"
:bang:

is it possible Discount Tire/America's Tire people screwed something up when they put on the new tires?

browsed the previous threads on creaks and it talked lubing/tightening things. semi-worried since i just got the car two months ago and everything checked out fine.

worry? no worry?

thanks everyone

Maybe the installer hit one of the brake dust shields so its now rubbing the rotor? Kinda sounds like a metallic creak/scraping sound. That's the only thing tire install related I can think of...

i just don't know what else it'd be from. all i know is that it's new and i don't wanna go in for another $100 inspection when i just had one :censor:

hoping it'll go away and not screw anything up....

Take it back and tell them something isnt right.

took it to Firestone for the alignment after the tires, i can just blame it on them and have them fix whatever the heck is is ;)

this truck is gonna give me ulcers from all the worrying!
LOL

When I had mine rotated last the shop balanced them wrong and I had a creaking noise like u describe at start up and slow speeds. Took it to different tire shop and they fixed it for free.

If you paid for a rear wheel alignment you might want to ask what is involved with that..... If the noise is in fact coming from the rear. how many miles did you put on it before you had the alignment? And no sounds prior to that?

i just got the truck about two months ago, and i've put about 2000 miles with the stock tires it came with. no issues - no noise, nada.

then i put the bigger tires on and VOILA, creaky crazy rear noise. but now i don't know who to blame, tire people or alignment people.

flip a coin ?? :grinpimp:

Check to see if your spare tire is rubbing up against the panhard bar.

Do you happen to have the ball mount hitch installed?

just called firestone, they said they did a front/rear alignment and they'd do "courtesy check" to see what was happening.
hopefully this isn't just a coincidental squeak and it's something they did.....yea i'm being cheap
those tires cost me a fortune! i still need to find a spare to match the new size
haha

okay, nevermind my post above. I just assumed you purchased a new 33" spare. I can't see the 31" tire rubbing the panhard.

If they say the did work back there...Id press Firestone to make it right. There is nothing to align on the rear of our rigs unless you are running an adjustable Panhard. Hence my question about paying for a rear wheel alignment. There are stories of people being up-sold for a front and rear alignment when there is nothing to align back there.

Honestly, My best guess is the dust shield is the culprit like Spresso mentioned. I had mine start making noise a while back. I had not had any work done when it happened, so I took it to my shop. He looked around and noticed some other issues from when I had an accident and ended up back at the repair shop. Got the other issues fixed... but took him forever to finally find where on the dust shield was rubbing. Mine only happened when turning right with any type of bump.... If Firestone cant fix it, stop by the tire shop. Cant hurt....

You betcha. Reading forums will get you worried. Reading posts like this gets you to go hmm. When will it happen to mine? But eventually you will come to realize the truck is a faithful vehicle.

yeah i'm gonna pop by friday or saturday...
i always buy lifetime alignments from them so everything is running straight. hopefully it's just the dust shield like you guys said

hopefully they get it right, tire shop i used was a smidge far away

i love toyos, have had a few. i know they're trustworthy which is why i stick with them...
i just like to keep on top of noises and breaks so i nip in the bud.

i must be an overachiever when it comes to my trucks
