Hah! If it makes the wife happy, then I am not complaining. This may be the first time I've ever heard any LC referred to as or considered a 'chick car'![]()
You’re probably not seeing it, because that’s not what he said.Yeah, as a fresh 250 owner I'm not really seeing the "chick car" angle. My wife loves it, yeah. But it's not like it's a VW Jetta or something.

Oh, I’m sorry. I thought you meant the original post from @wngrog, who said the old GX’s were chick cars, not the new ones like yours. It isn't? This is what I was responding to:
It just struck me as funny, that's all. In truth I probably see more women driving around in 4Rs so there's some appeal there.Hah! If it makes the wife happy, then I am not complaining.
As I see it, the more land cruisers that are in the garage, the better.![]()
I definitely get your viewpoint and am in agreement that it was nice to have the Land Cruiser be their halo vehicle with a stealth wealth vibe to it.It just struck me as funny, that's all. In truth I probably see more women driving around in 4Rs so there's some appeal there.
I happen to see it differently. I would have preferred it retaining its rarity and prestige aura bought by those who not only appreciate it but also use it as designed instead of seeing tons at the mall and food store. Again, like the 4R. But that pony has not only left the barn, it's already in the next county.
I admit I do miss the stealth wealth aspect. Not from an exclusivity or gate keeping stance, more so from my own personal preference to have a luxurious, yet understated vehicle. There’s not many options out there that achieve that.it was nice to have the Land Cruiser be their halo vehicle with a stealth wealth vibe to it.
Quite the contrary. The Land Cruiser nameplate was dead in the States. They killed it off due to Sequoia being the replacement (it was either the full size LC or Sequoia, not both)At this point I don't think we will ever see the 300 GR or any 300 here in the States. The LC brand is now fully committed to the 250. In the VERY unlikely event that it fails then the name would be tarnished. If it succeeds, as it will, then they will just keep carrying one with it - even maybe expanding it to the Mini that's rumored.
The Dream is dead. Long live the dream.
It was relatively unknown but the nameplate was never close to dead. Now in the States the name is very different to those who know and new to the masses with the 250. If the 250 is a massive hit, I can’t think of one reason for Toyota to muddy the waters by bringing in another totally different truck with the same name. Makes zero sense and it just won’t happen. They’ve got enough problems differentiating between the 250 and new 4Runner.Quite the contrary. The Land Cruiser nameplate was dead in the States. The only hope of the 300 being brought back is if the 250 is a sales hit. If the 250 is a dud, then the LC nameplate really is dead here.

I think there’s a market for it but again, just like the 200 most people with that kind of budget aren’t shopping around for a Toyota. A few will look at the Lexus, and many more will look at Yukon Denali’s, Wagoneer’s, the full size Range Rover, maybe even a G Wagon.I could see it happening fairly easily. We already have a Corolla, corolla hatchback, corolla hybrid, corolla cross, corolla cross hybrid, corolla GR.
The real problem is market demand. There's just not much for a ~$100k off road luxury SUV. And Toyota already offers the LX600, which sold about 7k units in 2023.
I agree and am rooting for the 250 to succeed. I’m just not sure what defines success on these just yet. Is it 30k per year? 50k? I don’t see how they get into the 100k territory with the 4Runner being so similar. But if they do I think that bodes well for the brand and maybe, just maybe we could get the 300 with a Toyota badge? Didn’t Toyota NA say they wanted to have a Land Cruiser family of vehicles over here? The only hope of the 300 being brought back is if the 250 is a sales hit. Amen.To me, smaller market demand was a feature - not a flaw. It's OK for Toyota to have just one like that as a flagship truck. They have more than enough mass consumer ones to keep their bank accounts full.
"on paper"? Do you think the width is actually different than on paper? The 250 is a great wife rig. My wife was not a fan of the heavy 200 steering, but she’s a huge fan of the light 250 steering.
Also, even though the outside width is about the same on paper between the two - actually driving the 250, it feels much smaller than the 200.
I think most of us guys will be in this boat. Wife drives the 250, and we stick with the old 100 and 200 series. All are great vehicles in their own right.
