I have been reading about the value of torque converter lockup for the 200 series.

Project200.com.au

Does anybody have experience with this in the US? Or with installinsta in the US?

Has it helped with was mileage? Or does it
mostly help only when towing

My take is... it’s a bad thing.

To relate to a manual transmission, if you needed to accelerate, would you just give it more fuel and not down shift? No, because you’re introducing a ton of engine load (which kills MPG) and stress.

If you find your T/C is unlocking more than you want, you just need to regear the truck to put the motor in a better power band.

The 6 spd 200 (and likely the 8 spd, although I have no direct experience) is biased toward fuel economy; get in a high gear as quickly as possible when power isn't needed. This results in the trans quickly unlocking or downshifting at small increases in power. This will definitely accelerate wear, but as T2C says above manipulating the lockup isn't the solution.

This does, however, point toward why I don't believe the WS should be considered a lifetime fluid regardless of what the service writer says...

My recollection is that project was on a diesel, which have tons of the torque at low RPMs. So in addition to points above, makes the TC lockup more valuable than on a gasoline motor.

YEAH, WE GOT THAT

Lots of information in Australia on this subject. @orangefj45 and I are in Melbourne visiting partners here, including Rocket Rod from Wholesale Automatic Transmissions. They (and we) offer a TC lock up kit for most modern Toyota autos. See the video and shoot us a message here if you have questions: Request a Quote -
