Anyone know where to get the spare tire carrier accessory that the people on other continents get? I called Toyota today and they don't offer the OEM piece in the states. I have a 2011. New to board. Thanks!

Kaymar makes a great tire carrier/bumper. I know you can have the bumper without the tire carrier, but I'm not sure you can have the tire carrier without the bumper. They have an international distributor in Las Vegas.

cruiserparts in the US say they have part of the system

But I will warn you from personal experience - I had to convert a number of spare tire under TLC's to spare tire on the back versions. So that the customer can carry 2 spare tires at a time.

1. You will need a different lower section of the tail gate. (with male part of the latch)

2. You will have cut the OEM section of the body - be very careful to expose the nuts for the bracket. Dont cut to deep - only to remove the .8mm steel

3. You will have the cut the upper section of the body. You will then need to fabricate a bracket to hold 3 nuts.

4. You will now need to cut the OEM rear bumper for the lower section of the tire carrier to go though.

But if this is something you really want - I can give you the parts contact we use and you can order - but this stuff weighs alot. Would be cheaper to buy the ARB rear bumper with swing out tire carrier

Here's the Kaymar link:

Looks like you don't need their bumper, just carrier. It is probably more expensive than the last option, but WAAAYYYY cleaner install. You need to remove one of the little reflectors to mount onto your chassis, then a locking mechanism by your hitch. I did have this on a past cruiser, but had their bumper too.

Great quality, but you pay. There is a picture on the link that shows just the tire carrier with the stick bumper. I highly recommend them, and no damage is done to the rig, you can take it all off and get it back to stock if you want.

My issues with the aftermarket carriers are that they don't have triangulated mounting points... so they tend to vibrate and shake a bit in the rough stuff. The latch systems work well, but neither is as convenient as the two finger pull on the OEM system. Some years back, when I built the carrier for my FZJ80, a factory door handle was integrated into the unit, it works quickly and easily... just like a door. I might have to come up with something similar for the 200... maybe with hand touch unlock feature. Last, the factory rear foglights are on the activation list... they are a nice effective safety feature.

I woke up this morning and saw this thread and found it funny as this was todays plan for me. Had a custom spare wheel carrier fabricated and had it installed today.

Should have put it more on driver side that way the forward cameras on E311 can't see the tag. That's what I did for my jeep before I realized I can't get my Jeep over 140kmph

haha the tags is going to get moved over probably under the gxr badge. Early on I had an x5 and used to remove the tags when i'd make a trip over to the east coast and would always take the malaiha/kalba road as the trucks wouldn't even use it. :frown: now no longer have those empty roads to speed through

Thanks very much everyone - AWESOME advice.

If you're looking only for a carrier as chimyz said kaymar seem to have good quality you have ARB as well but need to install the bumper for it. I personally didn't want to spend that much on a carrier so had it custom made cost approx $600 and very simple attaches where the recovery point is on the right and through the hitch in the center seems pretty sturdy no vibration on the highway and doesn't move over speed humps but need to test it offroad. I posted pictures on the "hitting the UAE desert" thread if you're interested.
