I currently own an 2003 LandCruiser and am about to purchase a 2008. I don't tow but I do mount a bike rack into the 2" rear receiver hitch that locks with a pin mounted through the horizontal hole. Since the 200 series has the hitch integrated into the bumper, I'm assuming I need to purchase a short, i.e.: 3" long extension that fits in like a sleeve. Is this something I can purchase from a dealer or am I misunderstanding how the new hitch works? I searched this forum and used a popular search engine and was unable to find anything on this.

Thank you in advance for the advice, and thank you to everyone who posted info on tire clearance. I'm swapping my BFG all-terrains over to the 200.

The hitch is just like a regular trailer hitch. I do not use longer inserts simply b/c its in the bumper. The plastic thing on the bumper comes off.

receiver hitch

Thank you for your reply. So I assume that means after I remove the cover that there is enough room on both sides of the receiver to push the horizontal pin through from right to left.

Yes. Just like any other receiver hitch. I'll try to take a pic of mine tomorrow if I can.

I still have the same trailer hitch inserts from my 2002 Yukon which had the under bumper mount of the 100 series.

Only issue is the 200 mount is higher, but that would not matter with bikes.

I use a hitch pin that has a lock on the end.

I have a masterlock hitch pin for my ball adapter, and a thule one with a lock on it for my 4-bike rack.

It works just fine...

I am not so convinced that the receiver hitch in the 200 Series is "standard".

I found that the tow tongues from a Hayman Reece and Land Rover are way too tight when trying to insert it into the Land Cruiser's receiver. I've had to use a big rubber mallet to thump the HR or LR hitches into the LC receiver. The fit is so tight that each thump would only push the hitches in a mm or two per hit.

Yet these Hayman Reece or Land Rover hitches fit easily and are interchangeable with one another.

I bought a Toyota genuine hitch and it could slide into the Toyota receiver easily by hand. In fact, there was a bit of slop in it. This indicates to me that the Toyota hitch receiver is actually smaller than standard. Small enough to be a problem using stock standard Hayman Reece hitches.

I can measure the dimensions with a pair of verniers, if someone is really interested.
