The wife took it:)

Heh. Selfies are allowed when you are out with your Cruiser alone. Besides...if the truck is in the shot...it's a GROUP photo! ;) I've done a LOT of lone traveling in my 100...so I'd end up taking lots of photos of me Cruiser in various places...or with me too. Sort of a "family photo" thing for lonely me...

Long road trips through the mountains alone can call for desperate measures...

Beautiful rest of the family

Chains on rear tires only?
thanks! Merry Christmas to you and yours! We didn't even really need chains but we threw them on for some of the down hill icy sections... I'd always rather have overkill on traction then not enough:) Putting chains on the front is not recommended by Toyota, proly due to clearance issues etc(UCA-LCA/KDSS). With my new wheels and increased offset I could proly roll chains on the front wheels if I had to... Chains on the rear works great IMO!

Here's how we're sitting with the BP51s lowered to just 5mm (from 20) of preload and OME 7020s in the rear. The BPs have the potential to really raise the truck if that's what you're looking for. I wouldn't go any lower than this.

looks great - what do you estimate the max height gain potential to be?

You can add 40mm of total preload. I think you'd run out of useable axle travel before you ran out of height. You can also match these with a variety of rear springs to achieve a variety of rear heights based on installed components.
The shocks also have a required amount of droop so that the bypass valves operate properly. Once you understand how the system work you'd want to stay within that sweet spot.
I'm very pleased with the performance but it is not a budget setup.
I think the Bilstein 6112s from #brianjowett offer the best bang for the buck and best height potential ($1100) while the Koni 90s are the best stock height shock ($850 new, I have a slightly used set available for $600).
I have to update my thread with the positives and negatives of the 5-6 sets I've tried.

Willy, you not considering a change are you

No, just curious.
Thanks

I believe you mean 2720 for the rear? What's your height measurement and gain over stock? I'm sure you've posted elsewhere but I'm not able to find.

A few more pics. One from a trip last fall on a very remote road in Utah. From the top of our race truck at the Baja 1000 Contigency. (It was a total trip driving it through this year) and not necessarily a great pic but it's not very often I get above a snow storm.

So how do you compare BP51s with the radflos and bilsteins you were running earlier? I see a lot of new modders with BP51s and it would interesting to see a ride comparison.
