Just and I mean JUST traded my 100 in for a 200. Fresh perspective here.

Three things I miss the most:

1. Brake pedal feel. The 100 series brake pedal bit immediately and was extremely linear and strong. The 200 is just a mush pedal in comparison, I absolutely HATE the brake feel of the 200. Terrible in comparison, almost a non-starter.

2. Visibility. The 100 is like the Pope-mobile in comparison to the 200. When backing a trailer the "D" pillars at the back are huge giant blind spots, awful. Hood has giant strakes in it that are right in your field of vision at all times, I hate that. A-pillars are ENORMOUS compared to the 100. This is a major negative.

3. General drivability/feel. I feel like the 100 gives more feedback and is more of a driver's car. Drives much smaller and gives you more feedback. Some would consider this a negative I suppose, I don't.

That's about it. I love everything else about the 200 other than these 3 things. Wouldn't go back. The 100 is just too old. I felt like I was driving a highschooler's car when I drove the 100. The 200 feels like I'm driving a grown-up's car FWIW.

Yeah, the 200's brakes have about the same feed back as a 747's, but when you push them they do STOP you.... They are about the most disconnected brakes on a modern vehicle I know of but that's part of the charm.... I'm sure it is a choice Toyoda made for a very specific reason, maybe the crawl control feature and brake system can only offer that much feedback, so both live/operate in the same vehicle's braking system...

I skipped the 100 series, and went from an 80 to the 200. The one complaint similar to others mentioned is the rather large pillars on the 200. Do a little research and you'll find that the 200 has internal roll bars, and in a rollover the roof isn't supposed to cave in on you. This was an issue with almost all of the earlier SUV's, and probably lead to the demise of the truck based models.

The pillar complaint would be it obstructs visibility, which it does, but the tradeoff is rollover protection.

the visibility comments are interesting to me. the 200 is my first land cruiser, so i don't have the perspective of the earlier series... but one of the many things i like about the 200 is that it has better visibility than most of the vehicles i've owned.

That's it it? And radio antenna Is in the glass of rear side windows?

Haven't looked at 200 series wiring diagrams (still under warranty for me), but if it's like the 100, then there are two am/fm radio antennas - one embedded in the shark fin (that also has Sat radio duty - at least both functions are in the fin for my Prius) and the one in the window - termed Diversity antennas IIRC.

Below is something I wrote a little while back, shortly after buying the 200 - and I still have the 100.

1. 200's steering requires more effort to turn the steering wheel - no drag or anything, just harder to turn the wheel.
2. 100's brakes require more pedal effort to stop - not talking about panic stops, just a normal approach to red light. The 100 has less than a year on new calipers, rotors, a fluid flush and stainless lines.
3. 200 has a stronger response to initial parts of throttle application - first bit of fast pedal on the 200 takes some foot finesse, not so on the 100 - more linear.

I have an 80 a 100 and a 200. I traded a 100 series towards my 200.

I have had 40s 55s and a 62

Every generation is better but loses some of the "soul."

I still love my 80 more than anything. But my 200 does everything much better.

Interestingly every newer model has better mileage despite more power.

I am amazed by the brake comments as my kids have come to remind me that I am driving the 200 so that I don't put them through the windshield at my first stop.

My 200s brakes are way more aggresive than any truck I have had. They are awesome compared to my previous 100 as well as my current 100 and light years ahead of my 80.

I haul my boat with the 200 and the cameras made up for any visibility issues I had.

I went from a '04 to a '17 last winter. Both are nice trucks and I'm following the same path as you ('91, '93, '04, 200). I've removed the 3rd row seats and the rear screen monitors, added one size (1/2") larger diameter tires and installed rear spring air bags on the 200. I really appreciate the updated electronics in the '17, as well as the safety and driver support features. I miss the rear quarter window vents for the dogs, the passenger seat lumbar support adjustment, and the factory repair manual; all of which I had in the '04. IMHO, the 5 speed in the '04 is a better transmission than the 8 speed in the '17. And IMHO, the 5.7L in the '17 is perfect for the LC. I liked the beautiful dash and light tan interior of the '04 much better than I do the mostly flat black dash/interior of the '17. I have to admit it's a pet peeve of mine that manufacturers equate black with luxury. It's almost impossible to find a late model luxury car of any make with anything but black inside. All in all, the 200 is wonderful for my uses; it takes my family to VERY interesting places safely and comfortably and gets us home. It's a great tow vehicle for my camper now that I have it set up right and it's got lots of adventures coming up.

I have an 80 and a 40. I would like to have 60, but skipped the 100. 100 is a good truck but went to 200. No offence to 100 owners, just my preference. I think the areas for improvement on the 200 are as follows:

· Cup holders could be better. GM has far better cup holders in their trucks

· Tailgate carpet is too nice. My 80 has indoor/outdoor carpet that is is pretty tough. Not so much in the 200

· Back of the seats are too nice. If you have stuff in the back you have to worry about damaging the leather on the back of the seats.

· Headlights and tail lights stick out. Not an issue on the trail, but tend to attract parking lot scratches

· Cool box is cool, but would prefer a larger center console for general storage.

My list is the same as the items @steenh listed. Although I'll say the cameras on the 2016+ more than make up for it when in tight quarters but viz is just slightly tougher at obtuse intersections in the 200. On the LX version I HATE the center arm rest. The split, sliding armrest just doesn't jive with me and is definitely not as well thought out as the rest of the LX interior; and the LX needs a cool box. :princess:

I've owned both 100 and 200 LC's. For me, the list of areas where the 100 was better than the 200 is:
  • Opening rear windows
  • Removable rear seats
  • Locking rear differential
  • No stupid 2nd row video screens
However, the 200 more than beats the 100 due to:
  • Regular fuel vs. premium
  • 50% more power with better MPG
  • Crawl control and other assists
  • Seat, mirror and wheel memories (my wife is a LOT smaller than me)
  • Quieter
  • It's a safer vehicle
It's a shame we couldn't have all the plusses WITHOUT the minuses in the 200.

1) design - personal opinion - I really like the distinctive 100 and 60 series. My 200 and my old 80 are bloated blobs and are ugly. 2017+ LX is fantastic and we swapped the wife in one when it came out. 2017 LC that I have I think is the best iteration of the new tail lights. My 08 LC was the ugliest one

2) back windows not opening

I would say the exact opposite. I owned a 2008 LC and now own a 2017 LX (wife's ride) and I have a 2016 LC (my ride) I think the 2017 LX is butt ugly and the 2008 LC was my favorite vehicle ever.

Things I prefer in the 100:

1. The butterfly cupholder to secure drinks in the center console.
2. The driver door storage (it is longer and can store move stuff....CDs, small flashlight, etc).
3. The rear windows that are larger and open. This is especially disappointing to our husky who rides in the back!
4. The tailgate on the 100 *seems* to be a bit larger. Not sure if that is the case, but we use that as a changing table and food prep area and the 100 surface seems larger and nicer.

Varying opinions is what makes the world a wonderful place

Your wife has impeccable taste

So as of Saturday, I have both a 100 and a 200. The power in the 200 is amazing... smooth, refined, cruise at 80-90mph all day long with no drama . If you use the third row seats like we do, the 200 is way better, no Velcro strap nonsense.
I like the 100 as it feels more agile and I guess maybe "tighter". Not sure why but it feels that way.
One huge plus for the 100 is the glass headlights. I hate how 200s can look so cheap/dated with their faded, yellowed headlights. MPGs are about the same, probably a little better in the 200.
