I have a 2013 with around 48k miles. I went to camp in South Louisiana. The temp was below freezing for two days and average 20 or so, it also sat most of the weekend. When I cranked it mid morning a small puff of white smoke came out. Should I be concern or is this some what normal in low temps. Any advice would help.

I wouldn't sweat it at all.

I guess it all depends on where the puff of smoke came out from. If it came out of your LC, then don't sweat it, but if it came out of you ... don't crank it any more until you get that checked out o_O

Very normal in cold weather.

Pretty normal to have "visible" exhaust when starting up cold.

Mine does that sometimes even on just mildly cold mornings in the 40's.

I would also say it’s normal so long as the ‘smoke’ is a translucent color of white and not a blue-tinged color that is more opaque. And, did it go away once you returned to warmer climate?

My italian race bike would give off white smoke because it was running to rich but if it happens once in awhile on LC it might be engine trying to warm itself in the cold by pumping more gas initially.

that white smoke we called it "water steam".

That is nothing. It is -8F and -23F with wind chill here in Chicago. A little moisture in the exhaust at start up is completely normal.

I started 4 mornings in a row from -26F to -32F in Jackson Hole and while it sounded like a diesel for a few seconds starting up, it ran perfectly and warmed up quickly. A fair bit of smoke coming out, mostly I’d guess condensation that froze and was melting off and getting atomized on the way out of the exhaust system.

mine doesnt smoke, but the engine makes a whirring sound for the first 30 seconds or so then goes back to normal on cold morning starts

also, gas mileage seems to be worse on cold days. even on the same tank of gas. If it in the 60's one day then goes to the 30's the next, i see a 1-1.5mpg loss in fuel economy

This is normal. It's the Air Injection Pump (the bits behind the bumper under the passenger headlight). They've been known to take a dump in Tundras but I haven't heard of them having issues in the 200 series. There's a bypass for the Tundra which I assume would work for the 200.

All my Toyotas smoke, stink & sound weird at low temp startups.
