My M12 with steel cable has never failed me and I have had it a long time.

Put a Warn VR 10K winch on my Tacoma with Synthetic and it had me wondering what it would take to swap to synthetic on the 200. I understand how to spool out and remove the steel and to spool on the synthetic.

What I can't tell from the front of the bumper is taking the bolts out from the front removes the Fairlead and I can then bolt a different one on without removing the bumper. I haven't been able to feel the back side of the bolts so assuming the fairlead bolts directly into the winch. Thinking it could be as simple as bolt off and then bolt on or I could be harder and have to take the bumper off the get the access I need.

Any one done this? Seems like a simple question, but when working on these rigs, there is always something that stops you and either have to work it harder or come up with a different approach

I’m not an expert on this, but it seems I saw a rig with synthetic line running a cable fairlead. They like it better for extreme angle pulls. Could have been just a wahoo wahooing though.

Best to check for any burrs or abrasions on drum and fairlead. Many use Delron rollers if sticking to roller fairlead.

I don’t know how the ARB bumper is made. My TJM has a winch mounting cradle, and the fairlead mounts directly to the cradle. There are just bolts on either side of the fairlead. I’ve switched out my synthetic cable once and it didn’t require anything other than removal of the two bolts to get the fair lead out.

If you’re going synthetic (and I think you should) this is a quality product:

Spendy but superior to the warn Spidura. Plus, you can go completely soft no metal anything on the end of the rope.
