Get the 17 LC next week. I LOVE how it rides stock. Yet, I also want to get a 2" lift. Will the lift kit make it ride more harshly?

By the way, this 17 seems to ride much softer than the 16 I test drove. Wonder if Toyota recalibrated the damping...

Hearing crickets... Does that mean nobody or very few have lifted a 17 yet?

IMO, the '16 and '17 stock ride feels identical. I have the 2" OME lift in my '16 and swapped the tires at the same time. Moving from the stock tires and suspension to OME + AT tires definitely resulted in being able to feel more of the road, but I have a bit of a preference for feeling the road. If you're partial to the feel of the stock suspension, I'd recommend looking into one of adjustable kits as the standard OME shocks/struts give you and enhanced offroad ride at the expense of a harsher ride on the streets.

It's not that the OME ride is bad, but it's definitely nowhere near as soft/comfortable as the stock suspension. The BP-51 or Icon suspension systems may be worth looking into.

As for feeling a difference between your test drive of a 2016 and then a 2017 I would check the tire inflation. They should feel the same IF same tires, same road and same PSI.

Thank you. What is an adjustable kit? Is it an air suspension? Or is it adjustable shocks?

the adjustable kits allow you to adjust the lift height. the OME kit is not adjustable. I just installed the KONI 90 shocks and King progressive raised comfort coils. It is another non adjustable set up like the OME and provided right around 2" of lift as well. I have not experienced the OME myself but did read that it stiffened the ride up somewhat and I wanted to avoid that. The ride with the Koni/King combo I installed is very comfortable in my opinion. Feels very close to stock.

I believe one can adjust rebound and compression on the BP-51 coilovers. This way by adjusting the shock you can set it up for offroad or paved conditions.

Just curious, what purpose does your desired lift serve?

I think any aftermarket suspension is going to make the ride stiffer than stock. Even my BP-51's are not pillow soft like the factory setup even on the softest settings.

If you love the way it rides now, then I would leave the suspension and tires alone. But if you need the extra clearance, you'll have to live without the OEM's floating on a cloud like ride unfortunately.

A mild lift with strut spacers front and spring spacers rear is likely the best way to get a lift without compromising the ride too much.

Monitoring this thread. I would like shocks or springs or a combo with stock wheels and tires and ride height but a little more firmer ride in particular less body roll. My gut tells me new shocks. Not looking for increased ride height. On my pick up trucks it was new shocks and possibly sway bars. Typically new Bilsteins.

Thanks for all the feedback. Primarily lifting and wheels for aesthetics. Will do some wheeling but likely nothing beyond its stock capabilities. Perhaps the strut and spring lift is the ticket...

Adding the OME 2" lift made my cruiser go from mom to bomb!

LOL. That would be the plan. The question is does it now ride like a tonka truck ;-)

Somebody has to have a kit that lifts while having shock valving that still makes the truck ride on the street with the same balanced ride as stock. I liked OME on my Disco 1 but this truck is on another level. Hence the question.

It's aesthetically pleasing, and ride quality didn't change that much. Maybe 20% stiffer

hi sorry for the newbie question,
when going for a 2'' lift, do you only change to longer springs? or change the shocks aswell?

also will it affect KDSS?
Thanks

Maybe the newer ones are setup differently, I wouldn't have described my 2013 stock as pillowy. Maybe on the highway but def not at 30mph over pot holes on your avg neighborhood street. The nose dive killed it for me, needed something stiffer but also didn't want a harsh ride.

Change both springs and shocks. Will have no affect on KDSS unless your valves are rusted shut.

Thank you for the reply, is it a "requirement or mandatory" to change the stock shocks when doing a 2'' lift?
Cause I want to retain the stock/original ride quality and comfort of the 2017 LC as much as possible
Thanks

Would lifting the truck 2" on stock shocks limit your extension? Seems like you would want longer shocks in general if you're going to lift, but maybe wouldn't be a huge problem if only on the street? Unsure. I'm also given to understand that you will need aftermarket UCAs to get the alignment back into spec if you lift.

Ps, re: ride quality + lift, I'm trying to accomplish that with some Bilstein components shortly; will be reporting in as I make that happen with results.

About how much harder is the ride quality compared to original? Cause I have just read a couple of threads saying that OME Springs ride hard and sometimes harsh.
Also, did you change your original Upper control arms after the 2'' lift?
Thanks

What would happen if I didn't change the original UCAs?
Thanks
