I talked to the guy when I was looking for a 2nd gen 4runner and that is a complete motor. When I called Toyota since my friend works at Bob Bridges and Toyota wants $3900 just for a short block and I also called Greg's Japanese and they go through an engine supplier and they want $2500 just for the short block but they offer unlimited miles warranty for 3 years and Greg's want $1600 just in labor to do the engine swap plus additional for head work.

All this is just for a 2nd gen 4runner motor V6.

Just talked to the guy, Eric. The labor to pull the old 1FZ and install the reman is $1050. Cost of the reman is $2400.

That's $3450, call it 9.5% tax or so, 3777.75 out the door.

The reman is all OEM minus the crankshaft (turned by EPW?), the main rod bearings, and the thrust washer.

I still don't buy it. Beno can price it out, if you take all those parts listed at OEM prices, even Beno's special mud price, you are going to get close to $2400 in parts alone. Camshafts, valves etc etc, that is not cheap.

Beno, when you have time throw some numbers behind these. I know from out pricing that you are at $1500 for about half those parts. I am not saying that they will not sell it at the price quoted, I am just saying don't expect all new parts and especially not new OEM parts.

New valves
New valve springs & retainers
New cam followers
New stem seals
New camshafts
New head bolts
New brass freeze plugs
Complete head gasket set
Short block 100% rebuilt-
New crankshaft
New crankshaft bearings
New main bearings
New connecting rods
New pistons, rings, wrist pins - Your choice of +.020 or +.040
New brass freeze plugs
All new seals
New oil pump
New timing belt, chain

New valves: $312.24
New valve springs & retainers: $214.08
New stem seals: INCLUDED IN GASKET KIT
New camshafts: $767.32
New head bolts: $184.24
New brass freeze plugs: $55.38
Complete engine gasket set: $270.28
Short block 100% rebuilt-
New crankshaft: $881.26
New crankshaft bearings: $157.24
New connecting rods: $479.46
New pistons, rings, wrist pins: $677.73
New oil pump: $296.16
New timing chain: $156.37

Parts above in bold are quoted at MUD prices based on current Toyota published list prices.

There are a lot of things missing from their list that Christo quoted. There are lots of other "while-I-am-in-there" things I would get done as well and of course these prices don't include any machine costs, any removal/installation costs, any fluids/tools/expertise, don't include any disposal costs, don't include any replacement costs for things like water pump, radiator, hoses, EFI components, misc. gaskets and seals, FIPG, sensors, wires, starter, alternator, PS pump, fan clutch, etc.

Total for the parts above: $4,536.12

Yup, that is pretty much what I figured. If you throw out the crank, then you are still at $3500.

Pretty much buyer beware. I am not saying everyone should stick a $5k motor in their truck, but don't expect fillet when you are paying for hamburger.

I would not pony up 5K for a new motor that will still get 12 mpg, it just doesn't make sense. I would find a used motor on here somewhere (seems they run 1000-1500), change the HG and call it a day, probably get out of it for less or close to 2K.

Agreed.

Well, looks like we're about to find out!? My buddies '97 started knocking he doesn't have a ton to spend, I told him about this, $3800.00 out the door and I don't have to even get greasy ;)

Facebook is almost all pics of customers with Toyota's and even a few FZJ80's!? https://www.facebook.com/media/albums/?id=100002087213584#!/ghenginehaus?sk=info

I spoke to the guy, seemed straightforward, confirmed my questions about price, warrenty, ect... Said turn around is about a week...

I put together a 22RE with a OEM rotating assembly and that cost $3800. I should have went to Beno and got the mud discount.

OEM stuff is more, but I fully expect to get another 300,000 miles out of her...

The prices you listed are of full retail value

From many hard earned years, I have well established bulk wholesale accounts with dealerships, IMC, WORLDPAC and EPWI, I am then able to pass on the savings by maintaining a low overhead.

Different model engines vary on parts that are OEM or higher quality than OEM, new or turned crankshafts, new or re-lobed camshafts, ect

Remanufactured 1FZ includes the following-
Compete gasket & seal set
New brass freeze plugs
Compete rebuilt/resurfaced cylinder head-
New valves
New valve springs & retainers
Re-lobed camshafts
New head bolts
Short block 100% rebuilt/decked-
Turned crankshaft
New crankshaft bearings
New main bearings
New thrust washers
Turned connecting rods
New pistons, rings, wrist pins
New oil pump
New timing chain set

The 1FZ does not include a new timing cover or oil pump at the price of $2400

LIST: $3870.61

MUD: $2902.96

+ applicable shipping.

I'd say if you were in love with the 1FZ and wanted to keep it forever, this would definitely be the way to go. As long as its the block with full rotating assembly then that really isn't a bad deal. I wonder if they have entire OEM long blocks ?
