Just wondering how my 1971 FJ40 would look with 2 1/2" leaf springs w/SOA and shackle reversal? I will be running 35"12.50"15" BFG MT tires. Im wondering if this would be to much lift for this size tire? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

we had a thread discussion about this a few weeks back, it came out to be that most agreed its just to much lift for the vehicle on stock axles. the vehicle would need more width, i think 35's would look tiny on 7 1/2" + of lift. i would stick with just SOA, i have SOA and 35" km2's going on my vehicle. just gotta get that big mess put back together :grinpimp:

Thanks for the reply. I would like to just do a SOA but im having troubles finding stock leaf springs. Hopefully something pops up.

tankxenia where are you located? have you posted in the wanted section?

Have a set in Florida - and I need some 2.5" springs. One complete OEM set already on a SOA and fairly flat - very cushy. Another set of OEM fronts broken down, sand blasted and ospho'd - ready for paint, rear OEMs still assembled. And a set of front OME that look to be the same height as stockers.

I'd trade for those 2.5" springs - and would be running them SOA.

Point being - don't think the ride height you get when you first do your SOA is what you'll have down the road - the springs will settle. The u-bolts are going to pull the spring flatter. So while it might look tall at first, it'll settle after a few weeks use. They'll really settle if you wheel frequently.

what about pulling a leaf or two from your springs now? not sure how many you can pull out safely but thats another idea

That is how I did mine. 2.5" springs minus one leaf all the way around and flipped front and rear. Sits level and runs my 37" iroks nicely.
