Hi all

Recently purchased a 2007 year 200 Series LC. Absolutely love it. It had a remap on it when I purchased it, and it had a bit of black smoke out of the exhaust when accelerating hard. Went to a tuner today who did the EGR delete, and he said he changed the tune up a bit without putting it on the dyno. Now there is no black smoke, but low end power delivery seems a bit worse (less power) but top end seems like it doesn't run out of puff as quickly.

Question: any suggestions for a reputable tuner in New Zealand (or Australia if there is a way to do it remotely)?

Not necessarily looking for massive power. Just want decent drivability gains and reliability.

The extra fuel, which results in the smoke, helps spool the turbo. You are getting more heat and more mass through the turbine when you inject the extra fuel which gets it going faster. That's probably why it feels weaker down low, less fuel = less mass and less heat.

I have not personally seen the diesel tuning on a Toyota, but I did tune my own Jeep Liberty(Cherokee for you probably) CRD, and they likely just changed the "smoke" map which is basically just an AFR map that limits fuel injection quantity based on boost level.

I dont have any recommendations on tuners but thats my guess as to what happened. You can live with some smoke and get better spool up and low end, or no smoke and some lagginess.

NZ has two really high rated landcruiser specialists. Kaiapoi Repowers near chch & Trundles Automotive in New Plymouth. Lots of Aucklanders make the trip to the Naki to them. They have a dyno and the owner has his own modded 200 series with the 1vd.

Lots of tuners around in Auckland. I never really hear any of them specializing in diesels or Landcruisers for that matter. Trundles would be my pick for quality.

Thanks for the leads. Those two were also mentioned on a Facebook post. Trundles looks like the one. Do you know if they also tune the gearbox?
