Been there. Done that. Sold it already.

Got a HZJ75 ute now.

Engine bolts in fine providing you get a set of universal mounts and weld them to the chassis where required.

You'll need to get a MID SUMP model from a Toyota Crown not from a Toyota Soarer (which has a front sump) which fouls on the front diff, also you'll need to get a gearbox adapter (only place that has them off the shelf is rodshop.com.au) which is freaking expensive. On the flipside, can get the mounts at the same place.

Wiring is a god damned nightmare. I went full aftermarket because the stock s*** just didn't agree with the massively increased lengths of the cruiser. (it's a WAY bigger car). Also, your dash is going to require some serious modifications to get your tacho/etc to work.

All in all, I'm sorry to have burnt the cash. Diesel forever.

thanks for the help,
i can get a rear sump soarer halfcut prety cheap, i think i will stay with the factory ECU(i'm good at wiring) and i've heard getting it to run like factory with arfter maket stuff is hard.

cheers

well i have the half cut now, so does anyone know if i can use a home made adaptor plate to join the motor to the h55f gearbox?

I reside in North Borneo, Sabah, Malaysia. Doing a similar project on a Land Cruiser BJ40.

I'm not 100% yet but I'm planning to fabricate an adaptor to mate 1UZ-FE to H41 (4-speed manual tranny) to keep the originality of the vehicle.

My only worry is what type of flywheel to use. Will confirm this to you once the project starts. I'm gettin the 1UZ-FE front cut next week and its a Crown.

the H55F is a good transmission, very low 1st and reasonable 5th gear.

cool,
i have got the motor out of the halfcut now just have to strip the rest and then it will start going into the landcruiser, and i will be making an adaptor plate so that just leaves the flywheel, which i need to have the two mated together and send to a machine shop to make the flywheel, (cause i want a 12" flywheel/clutch but nobody makes them). but it's all looking good so far :) , and look forward to hearing if you find out about a flywheel.

Cheers

Flywheels are a pretty easy thing for any 1/2 decent machine shop to make up. Decide on the dimensions & weight, get the clutch you want, use the flex plate for a flywheel bolt hole pattern, grind off the ring gear so they can shrink it on the outside & off you go.

Cheers

I've just compared the 3B (last model) flywheel and discovered that its an inch larger in diameter.

Think the 1UZ-FE needs a 12" (300mm) flywheel size to fit. Its a pity, we don't have engineering shops competent enough to fabricate custom flywheel yet so will have to look around for factory Toyota stuff at the junkyards.

Last resort in my case would be to get original 2UZ-FE flywheel from Toyota and build the necessary and required parts to match 1UZ-FE to H41.

Since your in Australia, you'd have a better chance of gettin it done there as you got Dellows and others.

However, I'll keep you posted later.

the landcruiser flywheel is 14" and i'll be using the original clutch plate, so i just need to find a machine shop to make one with the 1UZFE bolt pattern.

Its a pretty popular conversion to LJ78/71 cruisers with 2Ltes being so good at blowing up and 1UZs so cheap. The 1UZFE will bolt straight up to the Aisin A3** Auto Trans in the Landcruiser Prados too. Just have to swap bellhousings pump and Converter. Heres a link to my build.

Meaning the A3** used for the 2LTe? Is the 1uz not too powerful for that auto box? What about the axles??

EDIT: WOW, that 1uz looks pretty smart and I do see you used the box as from the 2lte.

What radiator setup are you running in there ? Very cool build though!!

Cheers, its just the standard Landcruiser Radiator that cooled the 2LTe, with a cap mounted on the top and using a 1UZ viscous fan for cooling. Seems to keep up with cooling just fine.
