Here's a video of tearing down a blown 1UR engine (the 360hp direct injection version of ours). It's interesting to see how the engine is constructed:

That would be a great swap in an 80 series. It could really use the oomph that the six never really had!He has a great YouTube channel (and is based here in the St. Louis area). He's also torn down a few 2UZs and 3URs, plus a 2JZ as well. Also has a pretty sweet LS-swapped 80 series.

Although I would have stayed with a Toyota V8 for the swap. Then you're still able to go to a dealership for parts and service instead of mish-mashing between Chevy (GM) and Toyota.
My first thought as well, how hard would it be to convert our GX 4.6 into the LS 4.6 version? What are the differences? Or would it be an entire swap?Having seen a few hundred various engines torn down in my time this was pretty well put together. I wish we had that dual fueling PFI/DI system, I could really make some power out of these if we did! Just waiting on some free time to get the SW unlock for the controllers. Anyone try swapping a 1UR-FSE in a 460?
Funny thing about when people start talking about how easy it'd be for swapping an LS into a ________ (fill in the blank), my son-in-law also. He wants to stuff an LS V8 into his 2021 Taco.My first thought as well, how hard would it be to convert our GX 4.6 into the LS 4.6 version? What are the differences? Or would it be an entire swap?
Toyota motors are harder to integrate IMHO.Funny thing about when people start talking about how easy it'd be for swapping an LS into a ________ (fill in the blank), my son-in-law also. He wants to stuff an LS V8 into his 2021 Taco.
Well, in general it's not all that hard for a conversion, all you need is a big arse hammer, custom exhaust manifold and a bunch of plate adapters for the trans, etc.
The ONE thing that NOBODY EVER CONSIDERS is the computer and electronics.
Unless it's a kit, trying to get your new engine to play nice with ALL the rest of your vehicle AND be smog legal (at least in CA) is no small feat.
Physical installation is a relative breeze. It's all mechanical. Wait until you have to wire everything up.
That's why if I were to do an engine swap (assuming something bigger/more cylinders), I'd stick with a Toyota motor. It may be an easier swap.

Yeah my thought was take the ECM, harness and engine and swap it. Just depends on the CAN comms between both vehicles. Haven’t modded Toyotas that far prior. Just a thought cause I’m pro DI but having both solves 90% of the DI issues.1UR-FSE used in LS 460 also has the port/direct injection setup.
The 1UR-FE in our 460s was used in LS460 in other markets in the world. IIRC...tuning was around 325-330HP in those applications.
The electrical work would probably be hardest than anything since I'd imagine you'd almost need to drop in a new wiring harness or go mad dog custom here and there. Not all 460s are wired the same.
Here is a resto-mod of putting a 1UR-FE into an old FJ45LV

What's the saying? Time, talent, or money, it only takes 2 of the 3 to do anything.Agree with all the issues associated with engine swaps noted above, including my own.
I did a 215 ci aluminum block V8 engine swap in my old 1974 Chevy Vega wagon when I got out of high school and that was a headache even without the computer and all the smog requited today. Albeit, I didn't have the collection of tools I have now, which would have made the swap much easier and faster.
Boy, was that fun after I got it running!!! Ear to ear grins all the time!
In short, engine swaps are best left to pre-smog, pre-computer vehicles.
Don't know why, I'm ALWAYS missing at least to of them...What's the saying? Time, talent, or money, it only takes 2 of the 3 to do anything.
