I have seen stretched FJ40 on FZJ80 frames. Just wondering if anyone has try it with a 1st Generation 4Runner. I know that this will require some insane amount of labor hours, but can you imagine a convertible 4RJ80? I currently own both. So thats a good start. Is this idea even possible?

I own both too and thought about it. problem is the 1st gen engine bay is so short, hood slopes down alot and the 1fzfe is a long motor. I had to squeeze in a 5 cylinder Benz in mine, there is no room for a 6th cylinder, plus a rad and clutch/electric fan

Anything is possible with the right plan and labour. Try it. Will be sweet as.

quasi has the same concern I do - length of engine bay. Might be worth taking a tape measure to see exactly how close things would be.

I parked both trucks side by side and there is no way that 6 inline will fit the 4Runner's bay. Unless you modified the grill, move radiator somewhere else or change engines to something shorter. I saw a 4 Runner with a chevy 5.3. on Youtube with a Very clean set up. Or go Mercedes Diesel on FZJ80 frame with 4 Runner Body. How is the 5 cylinder engine on Horse power?

Just thinking about it makes me want to find out what would be the best engine to use. :hhmm:

Check out my rig. A 1993 FJ80 with a 87 4Runner body on it. I streched the dog house only 5.5 inches it was really easy. Have 4 cylinder in it but inline six or anything else would also fit easy. My sig is MYTTOY on this forum and Pirate4X4.

That is a cool rig. How is the ride with the 80 suspension on such a light body? I would imagine there is at least 1000 lbs difference between the FZJ80 and the 4Runner body. If you have a link with more pictures I would greatly appreciate.
