I drove my first modern LC today - actually '04 LX.
It was remarkably quiet, except I noticed quite a bit of wind noise coming from (I think) the windshield near the rear view mirror. I tried to "feel" for the source, but couldn't find it.

Is this typical? The used car guy said it was, so I guess it must be true. ;)

Thanks,

I'm currently looking to purchase a UZJ100 either an LC or an LX and I've driven several recently. From my experience I would say that it is NOT normal to have a significant amount of wind noise.

All of the trucks I've driven were very quiet except for one that had a lot of wind noise. I was told it had just had its windshield replaced and when I inspected it I could see where the weatherstripping around the windshield was not sitting flush to the glass from exactly where the noise was coming from. My guess is that the truck you drove has an incorrectly installed windshield. From what I gather on this forum it's pretty easy to mis-install a windshield on these rigs. HTH!

Cheers,

My 05 LX is super quiet at speed, no wind noise to mention.

NOT TYPICAL. I have a 2000, this happened when I had windshield replaced (cracked from road debris) and not properly sealed. Safelite, made good and resealed the windshield. I could not feel air blowing either, but once it was resealed not an issue in 2 years.

My 2000 LC is kind of loud. I get a booming around 50mph, start to hear the tires around 60 and the wind is pretty prominent after that. small bumps seem loud too. Wonder if not having the 3erd row seats in is contributing to any or all of these (except the wind of course)

maybe I should have drove more than one before I bought it. oops

Definitely NOT normal.

Check fit and sealing between mirror mount and door.

Pray it's the mirror or next up would be re-sealing the windshield.

hth

Very common for windshield installers to use third party glass, and not get the trim/seal/install-kit. Certain recipe for wind noise.

When I first got my 2003 I had the same issue and I thought it was the windshield. However after more inspection I discovered that the noise was coming from a crack in the air deflector that is mounted to the roof just before the sunroof (maybe an aftermarket part)?

This is a red flag. Check windshield closely to see if it was replaced recently. Most probably the replacement was a hack job to sell the vehicle. You may even have rain water leak inside the vehicle later on.

There are some threads about replacement windshields and which is best to use should the time come. I recall dialog about "tabs" or something like that which most glass folks are unfamiliar with and can result with incorrectly installed new glass causing either a leak or wind noise. Each product varies in glass thickness and it seems like the expert opinion was to get the thickest.

Persoanlly, mine has some wind noise that is bothersome to a keen ear like mine but never annoys anybody else.
