seriously, look at the HZJ77 and the PZJ77...the KZ trucks are not that much cheaper than the HD engined series...
just saying to expand your choices...

The problem is that those are not common in NZ (were they even imported here?) and I also want a later model vehicle than that. I would prefer something around 2005 or newer. Plus I love the 2002-2008 Prado shape. :)

Remember, we drive right hand drive vehicles (drive on the left hand side of the road) here so all of our imports are from Japan/UK/Australia, NOT the USA. Our local models differ significantly from the US/Canada models.

I think the 1KZ-TE would be the most common Toyota Diesel in NZ right now. The Prado did EXTREMELY well here and they are super common.

TBH, the older Cruisers look like a big box to me, LOL. The newer Cruisers ARE common in NZ but too big and thirsty for my needs (vs the Prado or Mitsi Challengers).

).

Thats what I would be looking for. They did well for some good reasons.

then get the HZJ76 series..
BTW, i import from Japan and i did know you drove on the correct side...

FUGLY. ;) I am looking at this one:
Toyota Prado VX 2002 for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand
right now.

I just wish bloody Toyota would offer a V6 (3.5L+) Diesel in their Prado's! The entire engine range is underpowered and over-stressed, that is the problem as I see it. The cars look good but the engines have to work pretty hard, especially when towing.

I will definitely be keeping a close eye on my cooling system from now on. Maybe even have it flushed and checked every time I get the oil done...

sorry, THAT is fawking ugly Americanized vehicle. anyway, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...

best of luck.

Yep, it is. If you think that's ugly, then you might not want to move to NZ - these things are EVERYWHERE. LOL. They have outsold all other 4WD's in NZ for a very long time.

Not sure the new design will do as well. It looks like a bloated Highlander. That new design (which looks the same in Highlander, Prado or Cruiser guise - just different sizes) may just kill Toyota's sales of those vehicles IMHO.

The new Prado is also smaller than the old so I'm not sure how that's going to go down here. Plus it's big $$.

Thanks again for all the help guys, great forum here...

if i moved to NZ it would not be for the vehicles, it would be for the people. a friendlier bunch are hard to find...

LOL, ended up with a 99 Mitsubishi Challenger with the 2.8L Diesel. 180K/Km's. Great condition and the diesel mechanic was impressed with how well it had been maintained. Got it for a steal and didn't have to finance it like I would have had to the Prado.

It goes very well, far better than the POS Surf ever did. Might get a Prado one day but the mechanic said he has seen these mitsi motors do 500K if maintained properly.
