What Parts??

Thanks1 that's exactly what I was looking to hear. Parts availability is a huge concern of mine, and the reason why I shied away from a reasonable 3B offer. How about fuel mileage? any good info on that?

What parts weren't you able to find in your search. I have had an easy time getting parts out of Canada or Australia.

This will be a long thread .. :hillbilly:

13B-T and others factory turbo engines of the B family are good options .. I'm more the 6 inline engine guy .. but recognize the good B engines as well ..

Been said .. a B family engine will be less work, probably the same powa ( or pretty close ) and more engine room available for a front mounted Intercooler for example ..

It's a never ending debate. When it comes down to it: you'll end up buying whatever is a good deal. Really, you'd be happy with a 12HT, a 1HZ, a 13BT, or a 3B/turbo.

I wouldn't be putting a 1HZ into my 45 if I hadn't run across one for a great price. I'd have been plenty happy with a 2H/turbo, but this is how these things go....

I've never driven a truck with a 12HT, but I can tell you that it's all good. You'd be happy with any of them. The real keys are: 1) not a Chevy, 2) not a gas engine 3) that it gets good mileage. All of the toyota diesels are reliable (possible exceptions in the L series line, but you aren't thinking about those) and simple.

Ultimately, it's going to be a while. I have ten weeks of Ranger Academy looming on the horizon, and I know I can't be working during that, so this whole project is going to end up on hold. again. I really do need to focus on getting a substantial job, and ceasing to be a poor college student. Realistically, yes, I'll buy whatever comes along that's affordable, but I may just take my SBC and run with it for now, and later, when I have the cash, doing the full-frame off my truck deserves, and then converting diesel. .Whatever happens, just so long as a Toy motor ends up back under the hood, I'll be happy

Now that sounds like a plan. If it runs the way it is, I'd stick with it until the "right" deal comes along. You could buy an engine/transmission tomorrow pretty easily, but you can get a much better deal if you don't *have* to buy one tomorrow.

Good luck with the Ranger Academy!

Cool. I spent ****loads on my 73 series 1HZ conversion and ended up buying a 75 because I can sleep in it , carry supplies for weeks if need be tand its also much more comfortable being a LWB.

but a 73 with a hz in Aus has heaps of cool factor;)

Did you see the FZJ73 in the quokka last week?

I seen one on ebay last week but thought it was in QLD was a blue or silver or sometihng very mint neat look cruiser with a 80 series motor

Having installed both the 12H-T and a turbocharged 1HZ into 60 series I would go with the 1HZ. 1HD would be nice, but the expense to get one of these engines is generally ridiculous.

The 1HZ is smoother, more quiet, lighter, and generally more fun to drive.

Not trying to throw a spanner in the works, but if you plan to roam far and wide in a cruiser, wouldnt you be better off with a LWB model, like a 60 or 45?
Just something to think about before the $$$ start flowing.

Some 12HT and 1HZ pics. This 12HT had done 500000+klms with a no oily sludge anywhere, just a light coat of dust. Its sitting in its 60 series engine bay

Whats with the gogo gadget brake booster mate is that std for the 12ht?

Gogo gadget?? Do you mean the vac assisted clutch?
They are optional on all models from 84 maybe earlier and probably standard on the Saharas

My HJ61 had the vac assisted clutch but neither of my 7* series have it.

The less crap I have to work around, the better;)

Photo of a 2H in a FJ40, I thought there was a problem putting a 12Ht into a lefthand drive FJ40 due to the steering box?

Where is that pic taken? Its clean enough for a car museum:D

I don't recall the 12HT needing the steering box moved, but I will tell you from experience to do it anyway. I had to move mine with the 13BT, and it's been a GREAT mod. I have had manual steering, mini truck steering, and now FJ60 steering. LOVE the 60 conversion.
