1HDT ticking - getting worse

I sold the truck (HZJ77) before I got to the point to doing that kind of work, but did recommend it to the buyer, likewise the two stage filters - he got the rest of the case I bought.

As for that kit, while it's probably a good idea to have the turbo rotors selected for the particular engine, if someone can find a turbo from an engine of similar capacity, injection pump type and RPM range, my guess would be you wouldn't go far enough wrong to do any harm. Just my guess though!

Turbo seals don't like dirty oil...

Returning to the ticking bombs issue though, I was just reading back through this thread and noticed this link: 1hz crankshaft flex @ ExplorOz Forum

This is a follow up to a previous post that I submitted regarding my 105 series 1hz with a inconsistent ticking noise coming from the motor. I thought that i was finally going to get the crank replaced after 2 1/2 months of disputes with my local dealer and Toyota Australia. But no I had 2 Toyota techs from melbourne come down and confirm the noise to be Crankshaft flex which was the original diagnosis from my dealer, Any way at the end of the day Toyota acknowledge this problem and say. And I qoute "There is no concern that a failure would occur from the crankshaft. Replacement of parts is not expected to eliminate the noise". My dealer told me that toyota have changed a lot of cranks and the noise just comes back after 10 or 20 000 kms from what I can understand it is the actual block that is out of wack which causes the crank to flex in turn making this noise.Lovely on Toyota's behalf its an absolute disgrace.

A little bird said to me as I read that thread: "green block castings, green block castings!"

Or could it be the cranks or BOTH?

I wonder. :D

Maybe some clever guy in Toyota City suggested using some % of scrap iron for the blocks, rather than virgin iron? Result: internal stresses not adequately relieved by the normal casting aging/seasoning process. Or maybe whichever of Toyota's myriad suppliers does/did the blocks decided to "cut honourable corner srightry" after Toyota put the screws on their already thin profit margin!:D (standard procedure when cutting costs for JDM manufacturers to squeeze their suppliers)

Hyphotheses are free!:D

I hope so too. I seem to attract these sorts of problems....

Ticking is one of the biggest reports from cruiser owners with the 1HDT and the 1HZ engines, I think it has something to do with the injection pump - but won't know for sure until I rebuilt one.

I had this once, the ticking was so loud I thought the engine was going to pop......

Turned out the long range fuel tank had crud and rust that deposited in the fuel filter restricting the fuel flow and cousing the tickng sound..

- 1994 HDJ80 1HDT coverted H151F Part Time 4WD, around 200k on the clock.
- Custom FMIC, full 3 inch exhaust.

Just started having this noise too at idle both when hot and cold start. Changed oil about 600km ago (ENEOS Full Synthetic 10W40).

I just got my intercooler and exhaust upgrade around 1500km ago so I am in the process of tweaking my fuel pump a little.
Running 15 psi boost with EGTs below 720C on full load. During this period I kind of drove a little fast and furious for scientific purposes off course but now I got this weird metallic ticking noise somewhere from the engine. Should I be worried?

I would be more worried if its a regular tick as it could be BEB. Lots of 1HD T and 1HZ have ticking noise, usually spasmodic
