Souinds to me inj pump or small air leak. A small air leak wont stop it starting - but will cause it to be less than smooth. I ha that experience a few weeks ago and found a air leak around the fuel filter hoses where someone had done a dodgey job. After fixing that it was all smooth; add to that 26psi with a Bad Boy 1 it was a new car ;-)

Apparently the pump was done just before I got the car (not that that means much) .

Pretty happy with the new injectors tho Graeme, was able to wind a bit more fuel out of it. Taking it up north this weekend for a run, so I'll see how she goes!

I've already checked for airleaks around the filter. Also tried pumping the primer whilst it was running to see If that had any effect, but it had none.

People that have said blocked filters, wouldn't that cause it to starve for fuel at higher loads? Not just a rough idle ?

It might be smart to install some clear lines going to your fuel filter and then from your filter to your IP.
Just visually see if there is air in the system.

And air usually accumalates overnight and gives yopu hard starts in the morning

Thats what I think. When they are idling the fuel usage is so tiny. Its when you are trying do high speed in tall gears that fuel starvation is most apparent.
The pump pulls through as much as 4 times what it needs to keep the pump cool,so it would have to be really blocked to affect the idle and probably wouldnt go any faster than that

Read this Thread...rough starts and idle till he gave her the skinny pedal.

You mentioned that the ACSD was removed, did you pull the fuel solenoid and check the very last filter?
If the ACSD was worn out you will have shavings at the filter, if there are shavings at the filter your fuel will be reduced...if shavings entered the system your fuel timing cam may be worn, I had to change mine for $180.00.

If the filter was blocked, wouldn't it be starving for fuel under load? It goes like a cut snake and defiantly isn't starving under load.

It's Gunna be at least 6 months till I'm down shawns way, it shouldn't hurt anything should it ?

There is very few repairable parts inside a rotary pump,so whatevers worn now will need replacing now or then.
Things like a bad shaft bearing can transfer the slop to other parts.
Assuming it is the pump.

I was just reading some tech articles about rotary and inline pumps in general. It seems bad idling can often be traced back to the delivery valves .
After the pump has delivered a shot of diesel, the valves must close and stop any pressure leaking back into the pump.
From what I could see,it is most noticeable at idle. Im guessing at high rpms the amount of fuel and pump pressure makes up for it.

If your pump was rebuilt 40000klms ago,the valves may have tested ok at the time.

It would be kinder than a rebuild.

When my ACSD failed and the filter plugged with shavings it would not idle at all, the only way to keep it running was by stepping on the pedal.
The filter check is free and you can do it yourself!

have you got any videos how does it run? we have done lot of them here & over 90% are related to injectors.even though injectors had been done. some time fuel line metal flack can end up slightly pug up injector tips so i would pull them out & bench test them again.i am not saying they cannot do a good job ,knowing that these vehicles are plenty in aus but things do happen & we our self had experience these issues over here many times. ip will also does the same problem if bushing are worn over.005 thous play too.

SOLVED!

UPDATE!

Just a update on this, turned out to be all the bolts holding my clutch on were loose, giving the impression it was running rough, due to the vibrations.

Note the flogged out holes.

Lucky these little guys didn't let go.

Is the disc in the correct direction? There is a front and back side, if reversed, clutch won't disengage.

Just an idea.
