hi there ..

i already do a lot of searching .. maybe my searching is not hard enough but ..

i even could not find thread about people put 1HDT into their BJ70/LJ70/LJ71 ..

last week .. i already blown my 2LT (overboost).. and now i wonder if i could use this engine (1HDT).. :hmm:

if i can .. what manual tranny could i use an d fit into BJ70/LJ70/LJ71 ? or should i use the automatic trans ?

or should i just put in 13BT as here is hard to find 14BT available .. i think it already gone in other people rigs ..

friends .. give me an ideas or suggestions .. please ..

honestly saying here .. i already tried my friends' rigs ..
1KZTE is quite ok and i know it is a straight bolt on my ride ..
i dont like it ..

even my other friends already have the 1KZTE .. they dont use the ECU and changed using mechanical fuel pump from 14BT ..
and still i dont like it.. ;p

the feeling is just like the power of my old 2LT with bigger turbo and fuel pump and etc ..

do i have any other options?

Hi,
I haven't started an official thread yet on my project, but here are some basics that I have found/done.
First, you will need a longer nose, that is, one from a heavy duty 70 series, the one with the more square front end, not the rounded front with the light duty 70 series. I am using my front end from my BJ-70 on a LJ-78. The front body mounts/radiator mount are different from a heavy duty vs light duty 70.
I am using a 1HD-FT with it's matching 5 speed and full time transfer case out of a 80 series. Problem I have is that the shifter for the transfer case is in the way of the floor, so I unbolted it and now it looks like the drive train fits just about right. What I will do is get the shifter assembly from a part time transfer case, HF1A, and use it. You will need new engine mounts and insulator for a HZ application in a 70 series, so you need the mounts that bolt to the block and the weld on mounts to the frame. You may need a HZ or HD specific radiator out of a 70 series. Also, you may need to change the air cleaner to work for this engine, I haven't gotten to that part yet. IF you are left hand drive you will maybe have to figure out the throttle cable routing to make it work, I haven't gotten to that part either yet. So basically you should probably use a H151 type manual transmission with a HF1A part time transfer case. I don't know if you can use a automatic out of a 80 series with the HF1A since I am not going this way.
This should give you some thing to think about

here in my place, I never seen BJ70/LJ70/LJ71 fitting in 1HDT or 1HDFT 24 valve engine into their rigs .. maybe there are but .. never encounter them personally ..

one of my friend (owner of kinaway auto parts dealer).. we call him Mr. Siow and he own a BJ74 .. he is part of the competitor for the Borneo 4x4 International Challenge here in my place ..

last time he put in 15B turboed into his BJ74 .. and this year .. he already changed his 15BT engine to 1HDT. .:bang: he put the 15BT into his another car .. he use it

there is many prado here .. LJ78 .. LJ70 .. and other .. but BJ70 is one or two only .. hard to find .. i also dont know why ..

i know BJ74 and BJ70 is not the same .. but .. in term of engine bay .. is it same? :frown:

if same .. maybe i can upgade my LJ70 to BJ7? :bounce2:

A BJ-70 has the same front clip as a BJ-74 as a BJ-75 or any other heavy duty 70 series. All the older heavy duty 70 series had leaf springs where the light duty had coil spring. Newer model heavy duty 70 series have coil in the front and leaf in the rear.
Like I mentioned before, the light duty 70 has a shorter engine compartment and different front body/radiator support mounts compared to the heavy duty. You need the extra room if you want to install a six cylinder whether it is the HD or HZ.

yupp..
thanks a lot for the sharing guys..

this afternoon i just found the suitable front design for my LJ..
i got the chrome grill design from .. BJ73 if i dont hear it wrong..

now .. my question is should i change to leaf spring if i select 1HDT as my new engine? or should i stick to my coil springs ..
now i'm using kings spring which labelled KTRR-42 .. i dont know what it mean .. ;p

any ideas?

yupp .. i bought a half cut of the BJ's .. :grinpimp:

which previously have the 13BT in it together with the trans .. pedals .. dashboard .. 24 volt wiring ..

but without the original wide chrome bumper which have the place of a winch ..

i let it down first because it cost me more $$ ..

forgot to tell that here we are right sided driver ..

You'll also have to move the front cross member forward, to clear the fan and rad.

I put a hz into my lj78, there's a build thread under " hz into a lj78"

... x2

My next engine: 1KZ-T :steer:

stick with the coils, why take a step back in the evolution chain?
I dont think leafs are a step back in the evolution chain for 7x series cruisers if both set ups come out on the vehicle, i think its different horses for different courses

the same reason they have leaf in the back still.

(you know, if we ever got together over a beer, i think it would be an interesting night)

load capacity?

like i mentioned mate you wouldnt go by a 80 series if you needed to carry loads of bricks all day ,you could use it ,,but a 75 or so would be suited better in saying thats why i think different horses for different courses coils might be better for comfort and flex but leafs are better for heavy loads yada yada thats just my thoughts

Yes mate there would def be some very interesting cruiser/beer chit chat
;)

Hello,

Heavy loads make riding in a Cruiser more comfortable, too...

I agree, different applications require different systems.
