Hi everyone, I have a GTurbo that is capable of 30psi of boost but I have a ticking noise that sounds like valves when I push boost beyond 20psi. I had the head rebuilt after a headgasket blew and valves were set when the engine was reassembled. I did have arp head studs installed to deal with the GTurbo afterwards and no change. I did test for boost leaks from the turbo to the intake and fixed those but still no change. There may be a boost leak on the intake manifold as I blocked my pipes off just before when testing for leaks. My neighbour who was a heavy duty mechanic said it could be fuel knock but I never had that issue before. I have little confidence in the shop that did the head rebuild. The noise is related to boost level and not rpm because I can cruise at 2500rpm and no tick but if I step on it and boost to 21psi at 1900 rpm I get the tick tick tick. Any advice would be appreciated.

Has IP timing been tweaked since the turbo was fitted?
High boost will advance ignition timing.
You may be hearing early detonation?
When I've had a boost leak, it's sounded like a cat meowing.
Could also be an exhaust gasket leak at the head/ manifold. This can make a ticking noise. Look for signs of soot around the manifold ports.
