How long would it take to get to operatting temp on the road before the thermostat would open?

Been out for a couple runs and have yet to see the lower rad hose get hot, indicating the thermostat opened.

I check the thermostat with FCM and flow indication, its all good.

Mine usually takes 5 to 10 minutes before I see the temp gauge go into normal range. But maybe it's the warmer climate.

Rob,

The direct injected engine does take longer to get up to temp compared to the
IDI 1HZ. Guess it just confirms the increased efficiency :)

Thanks guys, I was a little worried and at the last minute pulled the thermostat and tested, of course it was OK as it was new.

I drove a hour to the airport and back and the rad never got warm on the lower section, it does take some time to open. And it is impossible to put the thermostat in backwords.

Damn that is one fast 60 series, in the wet I had to back peddle the throttle to keep the tires from spinning, 1st and 2nd gears.

Also to mention on Saturday the only dry day I drove the 60 I heard and felt a load clicking in the rear under full throttle. Went home dropped the diff oil, grey silver and the magnet was covered in filings. The original ARB had crack, four allen heads had backed out and the gears were walking up on the pinion and cracking chuncks off.

FInally by midnight and a great big thanks to POSER who called me on his on dime and talked me through the ARB removal and gave me the advice on whether or not to pull the unit.

Go figure the day before it leaves.

The extra sender here in the hose gives a bit more information. Get a good warning if the thermostat does not open fully.

Another data point...

After starting the Cruiser this morning, started the stop watch on the clock (cool feature) and zeroed the trip odometer. Warmed up for about 40 seconds in the driveway, and drove about 1.5km in 3'rd gear under 2200 RPM. Revved to about 2600 before shifting into Drive and continued with RPM under 2200. After a total of 2.5 km and 3.5 minutes the needle in the factory temperature gauge moved up to the cold line.

G'luck, -Steve (all km reading not adjusted for 35" tyres)

Mine used to warm up really slowly in the winter - about 8 miles of stop start traffic before it got to normal.

Got a lot better when I started to use DEI Radiator relief in the coolant - now only about 3 miles of stop start traffic and it is nice and toastie.

Usually my morning are about 22ºC - 24ºC and my 1HD-T takes aprox 5 min to start warming up .. and I thought 12 min to reach the middle of the temp gauge as my normal operative temp.

I thought that product was used to lower operating temperatures? But it helped you run hotter?

My truck is running COLD...

Installing radiator cover, ordering new thermostat. Coolant system is flushed and new red coolant and new cap. Would like to maintain 'normal' operating temps in the winter, rather than bottom of the gauge.

When super cold, the voltmeter takes a few minutes to move from bottomed out to normal operation.
