Turbo: SOLD
Intake Manifold -SOLD
Injection Pump: SOLD
Piston Cooling Jets: SOLD
Timing Gear: SOLD
AC pump -SOLD
AC pump brackets & Crank Pulley: SOLD
Block: SOLD
Glow Plugs: SOLD
Transmission A442 (full hydraulic model): SOLD
There's a few other engine bay parts available as well. Let me know what you need.

***END EDIT***

This 1HD-T came out of a 1991 HDJ81 with 280,000km on the clock. It was involved in an accident where it came to rest upside down in water. The snorkel head was below water, as was some of the engine, and it would have had a good dunk when it was pulled out of the ditch.

It sat for about 10 months before I was able to remove it from the truck and start checking it over. Here's what I found:
Approx 8 litres of water in the pan, with the oil still on top.
Four cylinders had water in them. Pulled the glow plugs and pushed it out by turning the engine over by hand.
The turbo had water in it.
Cam lobes had some minor corrosion on them. Cleaned up with fluid film and a Scotch-Brite pad. They came back to full shiny.
Turbo spins freely, and doesn't have excess play.
Engine turns over freely by hand (with a big wrench that is), nothing binding or feeling weird inside.
I don't know if any rods are bent at all.***EDIT - #4 ROD IS BENT*** I have no idea if the engine shut down because of hydrolock, if it suffocated and stalled because the snorkel head was below water, or if I shut it off while hanging from the seatbelt semi-conscious.

The good stuff on the engine:
at 240,000km I had the head planed and put in a new head gasket and all new top end gaskets.
It has a Power Rod in the fuel pump. I would consider removing it and returning to stock. It preformed very well though
Turbo was stock, running 17psi boost
Injectors were serviced at that 240,000km. Should be checked since they sat wet for so long.

The bad:
There is some corrosion in the #4 intake port, and around the intake valve.
There has potentially been water everywhere in the engine.

My opinion:
If I was going to keep it I would tear it down and do a complete rebuild. In the event that any rods are bent I know G&S Cruiser Parts has a complete set of rods (pistons too I think). It was a strong running and well maintained engine, but due to the state it sat in and for how long I wouldn't think of running it without going through it top to bottom.

I still have all the ancillary parts to do a full engine swap in an 80, so if someone is interested in that stuff I can provide that as well.

Transmission is included (A442, the fully hydro model), and I can provide a non VC t-case as well. The transmission had a large cooler plumbed in, and I monitored temps with a gauge, so I know it was sound. The dip stick shows no water in the transmission.

I'm asking $3,000USD. I'd rather not ship it, so if you can come pick it up in Chilliwack, BC, Canada that would be my preference. If you need it shipped we may be able to make arrangements.

Please contact me at cruisinoffroad@shaw.ca I don't check my PMs on here much, so email will be faster.

I've had a couple bites, but at this point the engine is still available. I'm open to offers.

If anyone is curious on cost and prices to rebuild a 1HD-T, feel free to PM me. I just rebuilt mine with an o/s piston kit and a lot of new parts (crankshaft, rods, rebuilt IP, turbo, etc).

Thanks for this zipdoa. Helps to have the whole picture when making a decision like this.

I would love to see this engine gone. I will consider parting it out if I it doesn't sell complete in the next week or two.

I've had more interest in the parts than the whole, so I've gone ahead and started tearing it apart. Head and injectors are gone, but the rest is available at this point.

PM or email me at cruisinoffroad@shaw.ca if you need anything.

What would you include in the "turbo kit"?

Thanks,

s

Basically everything you might need to convert a 1HZ to turbo.
-Turbo
-crossover pipe
-exhaust manifold (drilled/tapped for pyro already)
-air cleaner
-Turbo coolant lines
-anything else related that you ask for in case I've forgotten something.

Good Day Cruisin"

If it still available please let me know.
thanks

What is the condition of the starter and is it available?

I am just looking for something to spin over a 1HD a few times on a test stand.

The starter is available, and looks in good shape. $100 USD including ride to your place.

I'm interested but need some few in formation on this tranny. IS it running though and how many kilometer on it. Is this in Canadian dollar or us dollar? I'm from Toronto, Ontario postal code: L5C3T5. I have Japanese 1HD-T that needs a tranny hopefully this is bolt in. Please advise
Thanks

The tranny was working properly before the crash. No slipping and all gears worked well. Had 280,000km on it. Never rebuilt, but fluids changed every 50,000km, and never allowed above 250degF (I had a gauge plumbed where the over-temp sensor is located).

I can check for a shipping quote, but I would guess $100 to get it to you. All prices $CAD.

Can you please check the freight all together, I will PM you the complete address.
thanks
