I have the same issue with mine. Last fall I changed: theromstat, rad cap and did a good flush with new coolant. But I am still have a little problem with it filling the overflow tank. Changing all the parts last year helped, but I now think my water pump is going. The pump bearings don't sound that good. How do I check and service the water pump? Thanks.

My 1HZ does the same thing!!! Long hwy drives at good speed it runs hot. I check rad fluid and it's bubbling over full spewing over flow. When it cools I need to add
Coolant to rad. .?? What the heck is going on. Also I've flushed the rad 6x in 6 mo. And the water is still comming out reddish colored(I'm running water not coolant as I wanted to make sure the water is staying Clean befor I use coolant again. And it's not clean it's it keeps coming out with a tint of red.) yes I have a new rad cap.. No change..

Have your rad flow tested to see if it's plugged up. If the water is continually coming out red/orange your rad is likely rusted out.

And your cooling passages are rusting due to the water only. Coolant also has rust inhibitor. I hope you are at least running deionized water.

This...Don't run just water in your system except in emergency situations. It will only cause you more grief if you don't have antifreeze in the system.

I don't have a good answer for you, but I'm almost at 200k kms now, so I'm just going to have a new water pump put in along with a new timing belt.

I just finished a post in the J7 section after having massive overheating issues since a long time in Colombia and now in Ecuador.
I changed everything, thermostat, rad cap (2x), radiator was cleaned but was in top condition, viscous clutch oil change (4x!!!), checked rad hoses, new water pump (old one was still good), new timing belt, checked injection pump timing etc. Didn't help anything!
Then we checked the injectors, 70'000km old and they were TOTALLY full of carbon! Test showed they were totally shot! Installed a spare set I had with me, car runs much smoother and temperature went DOWN A LOT! I can drive now full throttle for 40min steep uphill in 1st gear (got 4tons!!!) and water goes to 95Celcius when cool outside (4000m altitude), before it would go to 110-120 in 3-5min!
So guys, CHECK your injectors if all the other things don't work! It might be the thing that most overlook...

Personally, I have a gauge to monitor EGT's, so I'd probably notice the quick rise in EGT's before I got to overheating for that reason. Definitely recommend to others that they install a gauge to monitor EGT's as well :)

1HD-T with plenty fuel can make your EGT gauge fly as fast ( and maybe faster ) than your rpm's !

I worse I've seen my water temp ( controlling my EGT's ) it's 184F
