This here thread turned out ok. I like that.

To address the synthetic oil aspect again, I can understand people who wheel often and therefore change their diff fluid often not wanting to pay for synthetic. BUT, that isnt the case with your engine. Most of us here are pretty enthusiastic (to say it lightly) about our Toyotas, I cant see why you wouldnt want the BEST oil in your engine? Espesically those I compression diesels.

That's just me though.

Mobil 1 in my part of the world costs about U.S. $ 8.50 the last time I looked though I've heard that it's come a bit cheaper since. The oil I'm using is about U.S. $ 1.50 . That would allow me about 5 changes for the same cost.

Deisels have a tendency to smoke but I've found that by keeping my air filter, oil filter and fuel filter very clean and changeing my oil and other fluids regularly I can remove or reduce the smoking. I really don't much like the prospect of spending a lot of money on oil and then seeing it get too dirty but be unable to change it due to cost. I doubt the synthetics can avoid getting dirty and if they did, I would be very worried. For sure, when a deisel's oil becomes too dirty, the amount of smoke that comes out the rear increases and gets darker. I'm probably using more fuel than I should when that happens too, and I suspect the engine is getting some pain in the process. For me, a change oil is like magic in getting rid of a black cloud in the back.

I really feel more comfortable in more frequent oil changes than trying to make a synthetic serve for a long period of time. I suppose I could try the oil filter change trick, but what would I be after in that event ? I like my oil very clean. Changeing it is a sure thing with me as against living with a long lasting oil.

Parts are going to be on the back burner, but I will try and help some folks out that I have worked with.

Rob

I don't know what that means, but I'll try and email you again. I did use the link that you have on your website, so it was the correct address. I'm not in a huge rush, but I think my TREs are probably starting to get worn out. Thanks.

Oh....boy Howdy! :D:D

Oil:

Synthetics are FAR superior.
In some older components, meaning those whose seals have accustomed to dino oil, synthetics will bring leaks upon introduction, and those leaks may or may not repair themselves. (It can be distressing to find a puddle of hi price oil on the floor in the morning).
The NV4500 transmission DOES spec a synthetic oil (and not just ANY synthetic oil).
A set of rerouted differential vents goes far in reducing the influx of water to those things. Cheap too.

Did I CONTRIBUTE? (Jeez, I hope I spelled that correctly)

Can someone recommend a GoooRooo who isn't Holier than I ?

Can I put ATF in my t-case?

Back to an erlier qusetion:

Can I put ATF in my t-case?

That is what is in it now, mated to an auto trans.

Thanks
