Yeah, I'm a little nervous about the water pump being really, really stuck to the timing chain cover with the FIPG/RTV gasket material.

I can over-think anything, and this might be really dumb, but does anyone think that a length of heavy fishing line tied to 2 handles (short wood dowels or something) would be able to slice through the gasket material without the risk of damaging the mating surfaces? (using a sawing motion like a pocket chainsaw)

I have removed a few water pump and some have FIPG, the fishing line idea could work if the pump was not installed with excess of FIPG, a smack with a wood board have worked really good in my case, but I wasn't planning on keeping the pump. I would suggest that you get hand on work, the only way of telling how stuck the pump really is, is getting it removed.

Is not a hard or difficult job at all, just keep in mind the precautions that are posted here and a FSM could be handy for the proper torque of the bolts.

Best of luck with the project and any questions use the forum!

My message got lost in the websites auto matic cuttoff crap. Anyway, this is a very easy project, I repaired mine on the side of the road on I-5 on the Cal/Ore border. Sounded like a wheel bearing was broken going down that hill south of Ashland. But wheel was tight and I noticed a little drip from the front of my engine. The real bear was getting those 4 bolts off of the fan clutch. If this was easy then someone was there before you. You only need to remove the fan shroud, 2 bolts and lift up. I think I had to put vice grips on the bolts and stick a pipe over the handle and hit it with a hammer. There in their at an odd angle for a ratchett to grab on to and they were rounding off. Taking the pump off and putting the new one on was a breeze. Clean the gasket area well, easy, and you're off. I'm a physician for C... sake, if I can do it....anyone can!

put a piece of cardboard between the fan blade and radiator fins before you try to squeeze the fan up and out

if you are flushing the coolant, might want to check the so called pesky heater hose (PHH) too
