Hey guys,*My 1fz-fe has been real fluttery under power. After power has been on a bit it kicks in like normal but is still a bit fluttery. If I apply power slowly it feels fine. Has also been using a bit of oil lately.
It seems to be getting worse. I just changed fuel filter, oil, coolant, spark plugs and ran injector cleaner. Seemed to fix it for a day but now it's doing it again.
*I'm gunna change rotor, cap and leads tomorrow. I'm thinking fuel or spark but it's kinda got me buggered?*What else could be wrong, timing? Injectors? Fuel pump? Is there a way to illiminate potential problems without replacing heaps of parts?*It's done 415000kms.
Thanks in advance

Check wiring harness by the EGR valve. Move that up and down. When I did the miss went away. Turns out the EGR pipe burned up my harness. Just got a brand new harness and it will go this week.

Firstly, what year vehicle? What country? Do you even have EGR?

If you are getting a true MISS then the OBD2 will report the miss - this is assuming you have OBD2.

Again, answer the above questions. Adding that info to your signature would help.

cheers,
george.

All important questions. I'm making assumptions that everyone is in the US and drives with an FZ motor

Yes, curious if you've hooked up a code reader.

My first thought with a load related miss like the one you describe would be a knock sensor, or possibly a fuel filter/pump or fuel pressure regulator...

Loosing oil? Hows the coolant? I'd probably go ahead and do a compression test since its easy, and could tell you a lot.

hey guys, thanks for the replys.

it's a 1995 from Australia. Sorry, I didn't realise all 1FZ-FEs weren't the same.

I'll check the EGR out today. Do be honest I can't even remember if it's got one.
I'll also do a compression test when I can.

I've changed the fuel filter. over 1800-2000 rpm it seems to run fine, so that seems like fuel pump is OK as well.
It seems to idle fine, but when reved, even without load it stutters. but it's worse under load, until you get to the higher rpm.

coolant isn't noticibly leaking and has no oil in it. and after running for 40 mins it still does it, so I don't think it's the head gasket leaking coolant into the cylinder (fingers crossed).

Cheers guys, I'll check out those things and see what happens.

I'm pretty sure the oz ones don't have EGR - not enough smog down there yet :)

Does it have an OBD2? If so you can pull any pending codes with a reader. Is it OBD1, then paperclip can read any codes ? Does the CEL light turn on when you turn to ON? Does the CEL flash? Does it have a CEL? :)

cheers,
george.

Ever figure this out? I'm experience similar symptoms.
