Hello all,

I've recently starting rebuilding a 1fz-fe for my 80 series. The machine shop machined a new timing cover to match the block and resurfaced the block. The cylinder head is new. I noticed in the factory service manual that it does not state allowable piston protrusion. I currently have 0.15mm piston protrusion. Cometic sell different thicknesses of gaskets, however I have a genuine Toyota gasket here. I'd like to use the Toyota gasket.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Will I be okay to use the Genuine Gasket?

Cheers.

Your answer is the machining limit on the block.

If the shop cut more than 0.020, you need a new block - according to the design limits, using the OEM head and gasket. Assuming you're also using OEM pistons, connecting rods, etc.

How much did the block get shaved? Typically takes between .007 to .010 to get all the pits out of the deck. Also when using MLS gaskets the finish has to be less than 50 RA. A factory gasket after it's been torque down and compressed is at 053 thickness. So ask the machine shop if the finish is less than 50 RA. And how much material he took off the deck. Then you can get in touch with Cometic and add .053 to whatever was taken off.
