No affiliation. Wrong side of the world for me. Feel free to provide feedback as I may be 100 hunting out in SoCal later in the year.

1999 Lexus LX470 with 138000 miles. $11,000

Just lookin out...Miles/date on timing belt sticker don’t match up with the dates in Carfax. Ask for paperwork on that one.

Says timing belt was replaced 11/28/17 with 109,327 miles while the Carfax says it has about 20k more miles during that time period.

Nice. Good eye. I guess I have to change my perspective before I start seriously shopping. Turns out that there are still a healthy population of charlatans and liars in the world. Sigh...

I had a week to remind me that!!

Had someone on an 80 series told me they verified the miles prior to their purchase, ran a Carfax and realized the car hadn’t had that low of miles since 1997!!! They were advertising 169k miles and the thing had 300k. They weren’t scammers, someone ahead of them was.

Trust but verify. Always. If it’s too good to be true, it almost always is. I’m super skeptical of the sticker as a good indicator that the t-belt has actually been replaced. If it doesn’t show up on the Carfax at a dealer as being replaced, show me a receipt or I’m deducting 1200 off the value! Might make me miss some deals but I’m ok with it knowing I’m not getting swindled.

Btw I texted the seller this morning with no reply.

Good catch. It does look to be in good condition.

Also, 11k for a '99 seems high to me. Even in CA where everything is more expensive.

11k for a clean 99 100 series is a steal, as long as its clean with no accidents. These older 100 series have quickly become classics and their value will only go up like crazy. What bothers me the most is while we all put money in retirement funds and IRA's we have our passion right in front of our eyes selling for pennies on the dollar. Anyone that buys these up, stores them for 10 years will have more of an investment then our unstable economy will ever provide. :) If we only had the garage space it would be so easy.

So, in order to best display my ignorance... what’s “pretty rusty” for a 100 series? I just sold my 85 60 series so I think my rust-o-meter needs a retune. With a car that can’t even legally buy a beer, should these things be completely rust free or do they pick up a little light surface rust on certain areas?

Funny! He reposted the vehicle on Craigslist with a reply to his haters.

Ha. Yeah, I saw that. What a D-bag. Just make an honest living man...
