hey fellas, i've got a 1999 LX470 with the Nakimichi head unit. like many ofthem, it has died on me. i wanted to replace it with an in-dash nav unit, like the pioneer avic z1. however, i'm told there is no wiring harness made for LX470's with the Nakimichi system. i called metra and checked the scoche site and couldn't find the harness.

is it possible, without rewiring the entire truck, to install the AVIC Z1? what do i need?

thanks!
scott

I'm in the same boat (99 LX with Nakamichi and the CD changer died recently) and am interested in getting the Pioneer AVIC-D3 but Crutchfield website tells me that there's no wiring harness for LX. I want to utilize the existing amp btw.

Anyone else has gotten this working without splitting wires?

Thanks,

Lin

Scott I'd like to follow up on what happens here. I checked out the same unit at Frys but couldn't afford it yet. I didn't press it any further and never new about the wiring harness.
Good luck!

I just installed an alpine double din (my nak changer broke also). I have a 99 LX with nak radio/changer. I also could not find this "hard to find" harness. My intentions were to replace the stock amp anyway. So - here is what I found out: IF you replace the HU and amp: only 3 wires are needed from the dash: acc power, constant power and ant. (These are easy to locate by color and/or test light). Run all necessary cables (RCA's, amp on, etc) to under the passenger seat. Under the seat, it is relatively easy to identify the 8 wires going out to the speakers. These can be soldered without cutting off the factory harness clip.

Also, on my vehicle, there are 4 clips connected to the stock amp. Unplugging all of these, (when replacing the amp), two wires need to be "jumped" in order for the acc on wire to work behind the dash. Again - test light to identify.

I would recommend doing the amp at the same time. The stock amp is very small and we're looking for better sound, right? I know this sounds confusing, let me know if you have any questions (I also installed a rear camera in the stock keyhole, direct iPod connection, CD changer and HD radio). Good luck:cheers:
