1999 Lexus LX470 TRD Supercharger - needs engine work

Hi everyone, After many great years my truck lost compression in one of the cylinders. I am looking to sell as is for $7K or get feeback on what a fair price is.

Positives
1) TRD Supercharger
2) Clean interior
3) First and second row seats along with the center consul were redone about 2 years ago.
4) BFG Mud Terrains with less than 10K miles on them
5) Optima Yellow Top battery that is about 1 year old.
6) Front Runner roof rack

Negatives
1) No compression in cylinder #1. Runs but will likely need a doner engine or full rebuild.
2) Clear coat is shot on the hood and starting to peel other places.

The truck has 187K miles on it and is in good condition otherwise. I am located in Torrance California.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!

David

call or text me at (310) 525-34 seven three. Also, I am the third owner. The second owner bought it as a 2 year lease return certified pre-owned from a Lexus dealer in Arizona. His wife helped opened new hospitals so they spent some time in Oregon and Colorado and were back in Arizona when I bought the truck from him in August of 2014. Thank you, David

I have not done a great job marketing it, including realizing that I typed my phone number wrong above... it should be (310) 528-34 seven three. I agree that I thought the supercharger along with the condition of the interior, the roof rack, etc would get more interest. Hopefully it finds a new owner soon.

I am not interested, but you asked for feedback
Unfortunetly this is a case of the parts being worth more than the vehicle.
it is a 20 year old rig very nice condition but still 20 years old
if the engine was in good shape how much is the rig worth? realistic price if you were to sell
have you checked how much an engine rebuild or good used replacement would be? how many hours of labor to do the work
good running rig price - the engine work price - another $2000-3000= the asking price
example: $12000-$5000-$2500=$4500 asking price

just my opinion

Another couple of considerations IMO.

OP have you considered having the work done and then marketing it? As it stands its a big ask for an unknown amount of near term expenditure. Huge gamble for a buyer and would be a tough sell at the current price even if you had been here for years and had a long flawless rep.
Not trying to beat up on your post just offering armchair perspective. Supercharged 4.7 would be a very attractive proposition in the right form.

Send it to valley hybrids, have them sort it out and then market it, just a thought

Thank you both for the feedback on approach on arriving at a price and fixing first then selling. I tried to use the approach on price you mentioned, although I agree I am probably missing a discount for the risk of taking on unknown near term expenditures. I have a long time friend that owns two reputable auto repair shops so he can swap an engine or get it rebuilt for less then I could have it done anywhere else, although my thought was someone would want to do the work themselves or bring it to a shop they are familiar with. Also, I have not been in a hurry since I have other vehicles including a 3X Locked 1994 and 2007 GX 470, although I will likely end up keeping it if I fix it. I have one daughter driving already and my younger daughter will be in less than 6 months. I am still open to offers if anyone is interested. Best case is someone local who can come check out the truck in person. Thanks again for the feedback!

Hell, just take the supercharger and associated parts off of this sell those for 3-4k and then sell the truck for 4-5k. You could also just swap off the supercharger and sell it to finance the engine swap. With as inexpensive as it is possible to get a 2UZ for, I cannot imagine a rebuild being worth it.

Agree a rebuild is the more expensive route in the $3K to $4K range vs a low mile/under 100K miles engine for under $2K, plus labor and misc other part while you have the engine out. I haven’t pull the trigger on either since I was looking to sell as is if someone else was looking for a project. I also considered parting it out but came to the conclusion it was more time or work than I was willing to take on. Still looking to sell all together, and I am flexible on the price in the $5K range based on feedback. Thanks, David
