ok so my land cruiser is slow as sh*t and i wanna turbo it. there is absolutely nothing on the internet about it, at least i didn't find anything on it. can it be done? i have a 98 4.7 v8. how could this be done? i saw see i think had a turbo kit for install in their shop only so i guess thats not an option. the only problem really is the exhaust manifold to mount the turbo. i have no welder or a tube bender so is there any manifold i could bolt to my 4.7 and turbo it???

Sorry. No input from me on a turbo. I would use $7400 and build a badass '98 4.7. Not gonna need a turbo on a trail. At least I don't think so. :meh:

Two other alternatives:

1) Take the $7400, and see if you can find a 91/92 FJ80 with a 3fe. Drive the FJ80 around a bit. When you get back in a 100 series, it will feel supercharged/turbocharged. Re-sell the FJ80.

2) Trade the 100 series in on a 200 series.

If your tires are larger than stock consider regearing. I second the 3FE or spend time daily driving a 2nd gen 4Runner with a 22re.

I found it amazing Toyota didn't void warrantee when the TRD breather was installed. Says something about our engines ruggedness.

Side note; I had a PO complain about "no pep" in high millage (270K) 00LX. I found all spark plugs where loose (hand tight). These plugs where not the one's recommend in my 01LC FSM, they where NGK iridium BKR6EIX-11. Once tightened I found it actual had surprising peep, more than stock than my lower millage well tuned 01LC or 01LX.

Well turned, I find stock is all I need.

no i dont take it on the trail a lot i just want it to be quicker around the city. the tires are stock size and if i gear it differently i won't be able to go fast on the interstate.. and why did they use four speeds...you can't even go fast.. why didn't they put in like a 6 speed or something?

Why did you buy a Land Cruiser if you want to "go fast"? Gearing will make a big difference in around town pep. But honestly, it sounds like you don't actually want the best strongest built v8 expo rig in the world. Just buy a used Chevy SUV with a huge motor. Problem solved.
Toyota built these rigs for 25 years of hard use in the 3rd world. Speed wasn't a goal. Longevity, reliability and robust contruction were. Most places Land Cruisers are relied upon for transport don't have many miles of paved roads, so "highway" speeds tend be around 80KPH, or 50mph.

I dont think there is a 6 speed auto installed in a mass produced car in 98 :hmm:

yeah good point id rather have a reliable car than a fast car.. and i know my land cruiser is a tank... ok well thanks everyone for setting me straight.. :)

You could always get some throaty aftermarket exhuast...atleast make it sound like a little more 'fast'

I have a 99 LX with the 4 speed and my brother-in-law has an 03LX with the 5 speed. I can tell a difference in acceleration. If you want a 100 that might be an option to move to a slightly newer one.

I've had an 06 with vvti and the 5 speed and my 98 without either and powerwise the difference isn't worth the price difference.
