Asking Price: SOLD
I’m selling my 1997 FZJ80, stock, no lockers, 174k miles. Overall, rig is in great shape. It has 100% been a family hauler for us, and hasn't been off-road since I've owned it (save, maybe a ranch road here and there). I bought it with 98k miles in NY. Don't have the records prior to then, and oddly, I’m missing the lube, oil, filter service records from 100k-120k - I was relocating from NY during that time and must have gotten lost in the shuffle. I did however change oil/fluids every 3-4k during that time, and I do have good records since I’ve owned the vehicle otherwise (ref below, PM me for more details).
REASON I'M SELLING
This truck is rock solid, and I really don’t want to sell it as I bought it to hold on to until I ran it into the ground. That said, I now have a 100 series and just don't use it as much as I had hoped to (i.e. only put 3k+ miles on it in the last year). I intend to dump proceeds into my 100 as I’m getting ready to take a long winter road trip with the family. I’ll get another 80 one day, when my three girls are ready for camping/fishing/wheeling…
Happy to send along my service log…PM me if interested and/or have other questions or want different pictures.
HIGH POINTS
- Rig drives excellent, mechanically sound, easily cruising at 85+ mph with no vibrations or wheel shimmy
- Serviced regularly, with oil changed every 3-4k miles,
- Compression Test, all cylinders on 9/1/2011: All between 170-180 PSI
- Been maintained very well, inside and out – though it has a few dings and normal wear/tear marks (see pics), and the steering wheel is well worn.
- Just replaced distributor 0-ring, EGR valve, and recent brake job
- Good tread on tires, Michelin LTX (P265/70R 16) – roughly 50-60% remaining (8/32)
- It isn’t listed on the service, but it has had a tune up in the last 50k (i.e. plugs, belts, etc). Probably could use another in 10-15k miles.
RECENT SERVICE RECORDS
- Replaced both O2 sensors: 135,000 miles (no records, changed myself)
- Front & Rear differential service + transmission drain/fill: 155,280
- Major front brake job: rotors, calipers, hoses, pads, bearings: 159,808
- New fan clutch + Freon charge: 169,990
- Front brake job: 171,934
- New Interstate battery: 171,750
- New radiator, grill, and front bumper (all OEM): 171,542
- Replaced EGR valve: 173,645
- Engine compression test: 173,645; All cylinders tested between 170-180 PSI
- Replaced o-ring in distributor
- Rig was checked-out by Edwin Kincaid at LCSpecialist in Austin – no red flags
NOTEWORTHY DISCLOSURES:
- For first time since I have owned the rig, a noticed a drop of oil on my driveway. In doing a thorough inspection, I believe it is coming from the oil pump seal, which many here appreciate is expected maintenance at this mileage. It is hard to call it a leak at this point, but in full disclosure….
- There are the obligatory small chips on the hood and a few other small scratches characteristic of a vehicle this age – but she looks good.
- Rig needs a new antennae, but radio works fine
- Small fender bender last October. Bumper and radiator were replaced, and a few other cosmetic parts up front. Some guy in a small Honda came around a blind corner in a neighborhood and slid up underneath the truck going pretty slow (it was raining). Wife was driving, kids in car – kids actually laughed, thought it was fun (just so you have some sense of the impact – both vehicles were driving slow).
- First 8 years of the rig’s life were in NE – it has some kind of under-coating protecting the axels and frame, but there is a slight amount of rust on some bolts here and there under the rig, but I would think it is normal.
- A couple cosmetic “rubs” on the passenger side fender flares (see pics)
- One of my girls drew on the back of one of the backseat headrests when she was a toddler…grrrr (forgot to take a picture…will do so and repost)
- One of my other girls put a bunch of stickers on the window of the third-row window. Haven’t had a chance, but I’ll be removing those prior to sale (unless you like Dora stickers….).
Sad to see this rig go…...someone will be getting a great rig!
